[font "Times New Roman"][black][size 3]Spent a few days at a family reunion by Bear Lake last week. I spent most of my fishing time on the creeks in the area and had a great time. One morning we got up early and fished Bear Lake for a few hours before all of the water skiers and jet skiers were on the lake. We tried a few different areas but mostly fished the East shore in 70-80 feet of water between cisco beach and the east state park. Found at least a few fish on the depth finder in most areas. Almost all of the fish on the depth finder were within a few feet of the bottom. We tried jigging with a variety of different tube jigs. We also trolled with downriggers, a side planer and flat lines. We never caught any trout out of Bear Lake. Carp were easy to come by though. In the morning we saw a fair number of carp "gulping" a few hundred yards out from cisco beach. It was fun to target them by fly casting an ant pattern to them. We did see one cutthroat on the surface but he spooked before we could cast a fly to him.
Here are a few pictures of us fishing the creeks. We forgot to take a camera with use when we when we fished Bear Lake. This picture shows me with a cutthroat. It was fun watching the cuts move toward the surface and take my fly.

This is a picture of my brother just after he cast his fly into the head of a hole on one of the many creeks we fished.

This picture shows my brother with a beautiful brook trout. We caught several nice brook trout like this in the 10”-11” range.

Nice report and pics there brian.

The two times I was able to get out I too came up empty handed. The power squadron traffic was way heavy so I opted to just try my new to me boat out a couple times and figure out how to rig it up the way I want it. The rest of my vacation was relaxing with the family.

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but last year when I went to Bear Lake there were hundreds of carp inside the state marina. I was feeding them by hand off of the docks. Is it legal to fish for them inside there? Would the DWR get mad for trying to catch trash fish?

Catch all the carp you want. Kids fish for them all the time. I taught my daughter how to play a fish using a light ice pole rig with 4# line and hooking those big buggers. She figured pretty quick that if you don't have the drag set right or if you try to horse them they'd break off.
