Well Chuck I hope you get into some and do well.... In answer to your question about how far between the flasher/Dodger and the bait it depends.... If i am using our Pink U.V. squids then I am 8-10 inches behind the dodger (baits that do not have an action of their own, Bugs, Squids Tubes etc) need to be closer to the dodger to get the movement they need to create strikes. Now Latly I have been using alot of our Serpent spoons and also some of the new Apexs and they are run between 24-36 inches depending on what you like and how much motion you want to create for them. Just remember at this time of year you will be fishing a little deeper so silver Dodgers, glow in the dark attractors are a good bet right now. I am currently running between 50-100 feet behind the boat but the deeper you go the less it matters.
The three top producing rigs for me right now are our Hyper plaid dodger and U.V. pink squid followed by a 50/50 pink and purple dodger and Our Mai-Tai spoon and then a pink fire ice dodger with a U.V. Pink Apex tipped with a meal worm has been pretty good.
Send me a P.M. and I will give you some Locations where I KNOW you will catch fish!!
Take care:

This worked for us. 45 to 60 feet down. important to keep the line at less than a foot. Can be bought at the merc in Manila. Should put a ring on the lure as sometimes the edges of the hole cut the line.

We never trolled for them, we knew locations of 2-3 spawing beds and jigged for them and always limited out in the morning then used the eggs to catch carp in the afternoon for some fun.
We used a jig called a buzz bomb 1 oz, smothered in smelly jelly.
