Walker Lake is a unique desert lake. It is one of only five relativley fresh, deep water lakes in the world supporting a substantial fishery {Pyramid Lake also in Nevada and three lakes in Central Asia}.

Walker Lake has long been renowned for its Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. and has been a favorite spot for anglers. In addition to the trout, Walker Lake supports Tui Chub, and other native fish species that are vital to the thousands of birds that visit the lake all year around, including Loons, Grebes, Pelicans, Waterfowl, Sea Gulls, Terns, various ducks, and others to name a few.

look at the size of some of these trout!

I have wanted to catch a lahontan for quite awhile now. I had a trip planned there last year around this time that fell through. Im hoping to go out there this summer. Great post southern and nice link. It reaffirms why i want to go there with some of those pics. Too bad all those fish were kept thats alot of big breeder fish taken out of that lake. I assume the populations are very healthy in order to lose that many 5 to 10 lbers.

well from the reports ive received its tougher fishing in the summer, they usually use outtriggers cause the trout are deep, deep, deep. . .

they've had problems for years now of people robbing their water flow into the lake . . .but from what i hear the place is full of big trout....
