[Smile] OK, so me and my buddy are heading to the Gorge for the first time Tues. through Friday( July17th-20th), wondering what pound test is suggested for the Macs and maybe any suggestions on rigging it up(like leader yes/no, what pound test leader, length) stuff like that, some of the other post cover lures to use, but I need to know technique and presentation. Like how to jig for the Macs versus the Kokanee. We will also be fishing for kokanee but I have read a lot of other posts and think I have what I need for them.
We will be camping in the Lucerne area. Any help to a newbie would be much appreciated. And I am being realistic about "fishing" for them, not "catching" them, one mac over 20lbs would exceed my expectations. Thanks a lot !

The line isn't that important. If using straight mono., I'd use something in the 12-15 lb. range. I like 12 lb. P-line. For braid, 20-40 lb. Spectra is about right. I use 30 pound Stren or Power Pro, and connect a 6 to 8 foot leader of the same mono as I just mentioned. The lighter braids under 20 lb. are more difficult to connect to the leader.

Either one works. Braid telegraphs hits a little better and has less resistance in the water; but mono. is smoother, and more forgiving on hook-sets and fighting fish. I prefer mono., but I use braid for most of my customers. Braid is also easier to work lures free of snags.

As for technique and presentation, that would take more gigs. than the whole internet has. And besides, lately I don't have any clue how to catch 'em anyway!

Thanks for the quick reply and info. I will report back when we return on Friday, hopefully with good news.
