Walleye fishing should be good as hot weather dominates this week. Water levels in the rivers and streams are running low so anglers will want to fish the deeper waters. Look for bluegills and other panfish in deeper waters as well.

Southeast Lower Peninsula
Lake Erie - Walleye fishing has been slow. A few fish were taken in 14 to 20 feet of water out near the E Buoy and in 18 to 22 feet of water near Stony Point. Some are trolling with crawler harnesses while others are trolling Hot-n-Tots. Good numbers of smallmouth bass and freshwater drum have been caught. Perch fishing is just getting started. Fair to good catches were taken off Stony Point. Those fishing in Canadian waters caught jumbo perch off Colchester.
Huron River - Shore anglers are taking bass. A couple steelhead were caught on spinner baits. Look for steelhead between the mouth and the dam at Flat Rock.
Detroit River - Walleye are still being caught by those hand-lining in the Trenton Channel and across the river in the Canadian waters off Amherstburg. Yellow perch have been caught east of Sugar Island near the Cross Dike and along the southern part of Celeron Island.
Kent Lake - The only good fishing has been the bass fishing. A few fish were taken from shore at the east boat launch when using crankbaits. Boat anglers were catching fish on the weedbeds when using artificial baits.
Lake St. Clair - Walleye fishing has been slow. Try slow trolling with crawler harnesses, Hot-n-Tots, or pencil plugs out near the St. Clair Lighthouse, and off the mouth of the Clinton River. Look for muskie in 12 feet of water between 10 Mile Road and Metro Beach. Good smallmouth bass fishing along the weedbeds.
Lexington - Salmon and trout have been caught when trolling in waters up to 100 feet deep. Perch can be found in the weedbeds when drifting minnows. The perch tend to move around on a daily basis, so depths vary from 28 to 40 feet of water.
Port Sanilac - Boats trolling in waters 100 feet and deeper are catching trout and salmon. Perch can be found in 20 to 40 feet of water. Fish the weedbeds and move around until you find fish.
Harbor Beach - Boat anglers have been getting some perch inside the harbor and out by the lighthouse. A few walleye were also caught inside the harbor after dark. Boat anglers have done well when trolling for trout and salmon in waters up to 130 feet deep and some walleye have been caught in 40 feet of water.
Port Austin - Walleye fishing on the reefs west of the port slowed, but may pick up again with the hot weather and south winds. For lake trout, go north or northeast to and fish the bottom 10 feet. Coho and steelhead were caught when trolling about halfway down.
Saginaw Bay - Best locations for walleye include the vicinity of Buoys 1 & 2 and even out beyond the end of the marked shipping channel in 30 feet of water. Walleye were also caught in 10 feet of water along the Pinconning Bar and in 15 feet of water around the Slot. Hot-n-Tots worked best followed by crawler harnesses and crankbaits. Channel cats are still coming from the Hot Ponds. At Caseville, walleye were caught on harnesses when fishing in 35 to 40 feet of water off Oak Point.
Southwest Lower Peninsula
New Buffalo- Boat anglers are catching chinook salmon when trolling in waters 90 to 130 feet deep. Most are using spoons or J-Plugs with lead core in multiple colors.
St. Joseph - Boat anglers are taking chinook, coho, lake trout and steelhead in the early morning when trolling in waters 50 to 80 feet deep. Perch can found in 35 to 45 feet of water. Pier fishing was spotty with only a couple skamania taken.
South Haven - Chinook salmon have been caught when trolling in waters 55 to 85 feet deep. Good numbers of perch have been caught in waters 40 to 50 feet deep. Pier anglers have taken a couple skamania in the early morning.
Grand Haven - Water temperatures have warmed to the upper 60's and low 70's so the trout and salmon have moved out to deeper waters. Boat anglers are heading out in the early morning and fishing 40 to 80 feet down in waters up to 200 feet deep. Spoons and flies in all colors have caught fish. Catfish and freshwater drum have been caught off the piers, but no perch.
Grand River at Grand Rapids - Water levels continue to be low, so walleye anglers are fishing the deeper holes. The fish are moving up on the riffles at night. Boats are trolling rapalas and Hot-n-Tots from Johnson Park up. Carp are hitting on dough balls and suckers are hitting on leaf worms. Catfish have been caught in the holes when using sucker minnows, small bluegills or crawlers. Those fishing Millennium Park are taking some big bass when using top water lures during the day or black spinner baits at night.
Rogue River - Brown trout have been caught up and down the river when using spinner baits or drifting leaf worms with no sinker.
Reeds Lake - Has awesome largemouth bass fishing with some 5 to 8 pound fish taken in the early morning or late evening. Try top-water jerk baits, black tube baits, or chartreuse spinner baits.
Murray Lake - Those fishing on the back side of the island, which is located across the from boat launch have caught some nice crappie. The fish are hitting on fathead minnows fished 6 to 8 feet down in waters up to 23 feet deep.
Grand River at Lansing - Anglers may want to try for smallmouth bass up near the North Lansing Dam. Those fishing Moore's Park have caught channel cats above the dam. Evenings are best when using crawlers, leeches or small bluegills. Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge also has good catfish, bass and pike action.
Muskegon - Boat anglers have caught chinook and steelhead when trolling about 45 to 65 feet down in waters 100 to 200 feet deep.

Perch have been caught off the piers when using small jigs and live bait. As the waters warm back up this week, boat anglers will want to move out to waters 80 to 100 feet deep.
Northeast Lower Peninsula

Oscoda - Lake trout continue to be the main catch but not many limits have come in. Most of the fish are averaging 3 to 6 pounds, but a few 9 pound fish have also been caught straight out and east in 95 to 110 feet of water. Chinook are starting to show up. Pier anglers are catching bass, walleye, catfish and drum.
Higgins Lake - Has very good lake trout fishing. Anglers are trolling large cowbells, bombers or rapalas just off the bottom in waters 100 to 120 feet deep. Perch have been caught just past the second reef in 50 feet of water. Early morning and late evening were best.
Houghton Lake - Water temperatures are in the mid to high 70's. Walleye have been caught on crawlers or crankbaits. Those still-fishing are using a leech or worm under a bobber. Bass and pike have also been caught.
Northwest Lower Peninsula

Night anglers continue to do well in the East Basin when using cut bait. Bass have been caught on tube baits, spinners and crawlers in 10 to 15 feet of water while fishing around structure. Bluegills are hitting on crawlers, minnows and leeches in 10 to 15 feet of water. Upper Peninsula
West Portage Lake - Walleye are being caught off the Humps between Sturgeon and Chassell, between the two red buoy markers between Grosse Point and Dollar Bay and off the Bootjack.
