Koldfeet and nobites joined me on Strawberry today. Tried out my bow-mounted electric trolling motor and it worked great to locate the fish for vertical jigging. We fished around The Knolls and The Ladders. Took a little while to find a large school of fish, but when we did it was almost non-stop action until about noon. We caught most of them in 36 to 38 feet of water. The fish were still there but even with two anchors down the boat would drag the anchors and we were trolling more than vertically jigging. The largest was just over the slot and all others were in the upper end of the slot. We did manage to land three rainbows and nobites lost a nice rainbow. Great time with fun guys to fish with. It would have been a perfect day if my GPS hadn't gone screwy and if the main outboard would have gotten up to RPM. By the end of the day it was a struggle to even keep it started. Off to the boat mechanic it goes AGAIN.[

To bad about your boat did the rainbows have any size to them?

Nice report Kent, sounds like you guys had a good day except for your main motor. We drove by around 2pm and gave a holler out for you guys, did you hear us[
]? What time did you guys end up leaving?

Hey i think we say you guys, i was in a hard top(factory glass) 22' trophy we were trolling. Were you in an older trophy?

Way to go, Kent!
It seems like you and any technical gadget just can't get along, be it GPS, boat or whatever. Did you get a PDA? Seems like it wouldn't be worth the effort with your track record!!![

Nice report Kent. Too bad about the big motor. Those things can be the biggest pigs sometimes.

Largest rainbow was about 18 inches.

If you called out on Channel 7, it was about that time I turned the radio off for the day. We left that area about 2:00 PM and moved over around Mud Creek and drift trolled for awhile. We called it a day about 4:30 PM. How about posting a report, I used to enjoy reading your fishing reports?

Not an older Trophy, but an older Gulfstream:

I got my PDA back from my son, and I am trying to figure it out.

we spent most the day near the narrows, and did fairley well with white tubes tipped with chub chunks. i love that place!

When there were fewer post on BFT utah I posted all the time as I'm sure you remember but a post from me about the Berry are pretty much a carbon copy of every ones else. If you troll, it isn't like jigging because you don't get the numbers but I think there is a
better chance that the fish don't die by swallowing the hook. Plus I feel that you get a better fight from the fish but that is just my opinion. We fished the narrows in the morning on the Renagade side
after launching from SC at 6am. Our biggest cutt was only 20 inches but we did manage to catch one bow around 18". We caught none of our target species, kokanee but we did find more cutts on the SC side after we gave up fishing for kokes. We left a little after 1:30 and honked as we drove by the knolls ay 1:55[crazy].

Hey Kent,
Were you over in the Ladders area before 11:00 next to that yellow boat with the guy catching all those fish!?...then later on a guy on a pontoon joined the guy in the yellow boat and he started catching fish?!
Randy

Yep, that guy in the yellow boat was putting on a clinic. I couldn't tell if the guy in the pontoon was with him, or if they just met out on the water. I was impressed that the guy in the pontoon had such a small gas powered outboard. Ok Randy, how come you know so much?

Curt, you have some interesting opinions.

Because that guy in the yellow boat was ME! Right after you guys asked me "what I was chumming with?" and my reply was "That I took a leak over the side..." I started thinking that it might be you and was trying to remember what your new boat looked like! I pulled my cellphone out and almost called you to see if it was you but then I thought that would be really stupid if you were out mowing your lawn or something. My eyes are just bad enough without my driving glasses that all I could tell was that it was 3 guys in a good looking older boat!
I kept thinking that you knew what my boat looked like, but now that I think about it, I don't think you've ever seen my boat before yesterday! Also, I was wearing a hat and sunglasses, and if your eyes are as bad as mine, you wouldn't have recognized me either!
The guy in the pontoon that joined me was FlyFishingForLife (Ryan) and that was the first time I'd ever met him. He somehow recognized me from about 50 yards out and asked me if my name was Randy and if I was Jareds father in law. (Jared is my son in law). I said yes and invited him over and helped him get his skunk off! He ended up having his all time best day on the Berry!
That spot is one of about 2 dozen that I have marked on my GPS in that area and usually ice fishes well, but does not really fish very well in the summertime. I was passing over it on my way further south and noticed a couple of fish on the finder and ended up spending the whole morning there. I can't explain the phenomena, I was just having a really REALLY good day. My brother and cousin cancelled out at the last minute, so I was there all alone. It was my best all time day at the Berry, both in fish count and in fish size. I caught my all time biggest Cutthroat yesterday and brought him home for dinner and a few pictures as I had forgotten my camera. Here are a few of pics. It went 26 1/2 inches, 15 inch girth, 6 lbs. and was the 4th fish I caught of the morning. I left around 11:00 and I won't say how many I caught by myself yesterday morning, but I will say that it was a LOT more than my previous Strawberry fish count record, and that my wrist and arm are very sore today and I have a blister on the heel of my hand from setting the hook so many times! Out of all the fish I caught, not one was a Rainbow. I ended up only taking home the one big fish that I caught.
That is the first time this summer that hole has produced fish for me, and I've tried a LOT. I couldn't help noticing though that everyone was catching fish yesterday, so maybe the fish were just biting real good everywhere.
Now that I know what your boat looks like, I'll keep an eye out for you in the future and come over and hook up with you and share some fish stories!
I was using the same old standard jigging stuff that we use for ice fishing.
Good looking boat by the way!

Wow -- talk about embarrassing![blush] That was me that shouted over asking what you were chumming with? First time I had seen your boat. I tried to stay far enough away to not crowd you and in the process I stayed far enough away that I didn't even recognize you. Thanks for the compliments on the boat. It does look nice on the water, now if I could only get that large outboard to run at top RPMs for more than one outing before having to get it repaired again. Randy, I've seen guys share tips on the water, but allowing Ryan to tie off of your boat was extremely kind of you. I heard Ryan say when me moved over by your boat that he hadn't caught anything thus far. I paid most of my attention to my own rods, but it seemed like every time I looked up you had a fish on!
[signature]
I have to say as well that I felt really bad crowding you like that Randy but I needed some secrets and boy did you have them. I had been there for a good three hours and only had one bite. I had recognized his boat from pictures and knew who he was, one of my best friends is his son-in-law, and he was kind enough to let me tie off with him and catch the most fish I have ever caught there before. I hope that I will have the chance to go fishing with him again. I caught 13 fish in 45 min to an hour and I have to say I know the amount that Randy caught and it was ALOT. Thanks again Randy

LOL, I was over thinking what you had said when you replied to me. I rarely jig at the Berry so I felt like I needed to state the obvious.
Very nice cutt NETO, thanks for sharing, almost makes me want to try some jigging there[
