Well finally broke away from work today and headed up to the berry,on the way up we stoped at the gas station and a guy walked up to say hello.his screen name is pikeman a very nice guy,and I wish I had his job.We chatted for a few minutes then we headed out.Launched at 10:00 AM and head straight accross from the strawberry ramp,we fished there for about an hour with no fish,So we went to the knolls and started looking around, there were some people there jigging and catching so I started to look for a school,we found one and we had it all to are selfs for most of the day.We boated around 30 to 40 fish and ended the day around 3:00 PM
caught fish in 35 to 50 feet of water.
bait was a pearl white tube.
attaching a few pics, one of a 25in fish which was the only one we took out of the water.sent it back down quick.it swam away as soon as it hit the water.

on aug 11 me and 2 others fished around the knolls as well, trolled all day and picked up 30 or so cutts and one kokanee, overall pretty consistant day with 5 double hook up and one triple. 2 cutts barely over the slot and the rest in the slot.

Way to go on the 25 incher. The Knolls area is producing quite afew fish right now. I am hoping to get up there one of these next Sundays but it might not be untill Sept 2nd.

Very nice report. There were a lot of boats out there on Saturday the 11th, sounds like today wasn't as crowded. We are lucky to have that lake so close with the regulations that are in place. I had some work colleagues come in from Pennsylvania a couple weeks back and we had a "team outing" at Strawberry. They were about ready to transfer to Utah after fishing that lake! They reminded me later how nice that was and how there was nothing like that where they were from!

Thanks guys,It was a little crowded over there at times, but some people came over just to see what was going on,then would fish for a bit or troll threw, they caght fish but a couple of boats including mine had the honey holes tied up,people where very curtious and kept there distance.MGB it was the place you took me the first time we went up jigging, that whole area is loaded up with fish, caught most the bigger fish in 45 to 50 feet,I would get shallower than that and they would get smaller.thanks for all your great info bud it sure is alot funnier to fish up there jigging.[Wink]

WH2,I noted something you said on a different post about hooking fish deep when your jigging, all fish but one of mine yesterday got hooked in the lip,one did almost swallow it and was in the slot, and did not survive.but have to say that a few times trolling rapalas or similar baits they have swallowed the lure and not survived.I am not trying to start anything, just wondering if you have hooked alot deep while jigging.
thanks for the info.
and thanks,LH2,you getting your decoys touched up,two months man!

We fished the Berry last Friday and I tried to figure out where the knolls was. Is it located just east of Chicken Creek where the island is? It was too windy to sit and jig when we were there. I sure would like to hit it when we could stop and jig. Still have never had a great jigging day yet. Will keep trying.

[black]Strawberry is not the most predictable water to fish, but anyone can improve their odds by starting out on the water before daylight.[/black]

[black]Lots of wind moves in just before noon. But is not necessary to be stopped dead in the water to jig. (That's best), but "wind trolling" a jig with a mild breeze is usually productive, and will be more productive as fall approaches.[/black]

Actually, it's been my experience in the fall, that when the "bloom" is so heavy in the water, that looking back behind the boat looks like you're going through green mud, has been the best fishing with jigs.

Yes, it is the island by Chicken Creek East.

Like MGB said.

Wow Tony that is great odds on not hooking fish deep while jigging. Do you use circle hooks? If that is any where near the same results that others are having while using jigs I might have to re think my ideas on jigging.

Not bad,you have to remember though, that was the first trip to the berry this year.will see what happens this weekend.my son and his girlfriend want to go after seeing all the pics I took
that I didn't share.
Maybe its the wide gap hooks I use, dont know for sure.
You got plans sunday?
later,fnf

Sunday is church day for me, at least in the morning, sometimes I'll go out in the afternoon but I usually stay close. Good luck up there.
