2007 Sportfishing Summit Agenda, Registration, Housing and much more is now available online!
The American Sportfishing Association's 2007 Sportfishing Summit, the sportfishing industry's premier networking and business management event, is only two months away. All ASA members are encouraged to attend and participate in ASA's committee meetings, the special sessions and networking events that can only be found at the Sportfishing Summit. We also have two special events scheduled for attendees' spouses.
Everything you need to register for the 2007 Sportfishing Summit is posted on ASA's Web site. You can also download a detailed agenda, meeting registration form, housing form and information on sponsorship opportunities. Registration materials will also be mailed in the next few weeks.
The deadline for pre-registration and the discounted group housing rate is September 17, so act now. For more information, contact Mary Jane Williamson, x227, or Leslie Boatman, x222. ASA's main number is 703-519-9691.

ASA's Board of Directors meets on Tuesday afternoon, 2:30-5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, October 10
On Wednesday, ASA's committees will hold open meetings to discuss current issues facing the sportfishing industry and develop recommendations for the Board of Directors. A networking luncheon is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. A Spouses' Afternoon Tea is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The annual member Welcome Reception begins at 6:00 p.m. "Come out of your shell" and connect with old friends and meet new ones.
Thursday, October 11
On Thursday, the day begins with introductions and remarks by Mike Nussman, ASA president and CEO, Randy Lemcke, ASA Board of Directors chairman and Vice President, Plano Molding Company and Ken Haddad, executive director, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Then, the morning session will focus on the latest information that impacts the sportfishing industry including the results of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's 2006 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation.
After a networking lunch, Ed Mahoney, Ph.D., professor and extension specialist, Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies, and co-director, Recreation Marine Research Center, Michigan State University, will discuss a new technology being developed to analyze sportfishing behaviors which will help identify markets and value(s).
Thursday afternoon features a tour of the J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge located on the subtropical barrier island of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico. The refuge is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. A $10.00 reservation fee per person is required. Spouses, guests and families are welcome. ASA will provide transportation.
The day will wrap up with the annual Member Reception and Dinner at the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa-a great opportunity to meet and discuss business with fellow ASA members.

ASA's Board of Directors meets on Friday morning from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to hear committee reports and consider recommendations and action items from the committees.
Later that morning, a panel of individuals representing federal, environmental and conservation points-of-view will explain their stance on critical access issues. Then, Summit attendees will learn what measures ASA and its partners are taking to address the issues surrounding fishing access. The Summit will conclude with ASA's General Membership Meeting.
