Out4Trout and I went to Lincoln Beach today and caught a few kitties along with some White Bass. Arrived just before light and had our line wet before daylight. O4T caught the first one (too small to keep) but was fun on light gear. I caught the next one ( a 5.9# female) which put up a great fight. I think the next one was about a 11 or 12 inch white bass which I caught on my catfish rig. O4T was also catching some white bass on his rig as well but mostly they were just stealing out bait. We were using chub minnows. Later in the morning, since we were getting so many white bass I threw out a Meps Minnow spinner and caught a 4# male catfish. Never knew catfish hit spinners. We caught a few more whites and called it a day at about 1:30 pm. It was a great day fishing even though we had a few showers early right after we got out on the water. Right after we got the boat out, the rain came down pretty hard. Guess we got off the lake just in time. Total count for the day was 6 cats and 3 white bass.

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. Glad you guys found the fish...and that you caught some in spite of being with Geoff.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Nothing unusual about catching cats on lures. There are many waters where the cats feet heavily on live food, like the carp minnows and small white bass in Utah Lake. They are tuned in to smacking anything that cruises by and hit a wide range of lures. I've caught lots of cats from both Utah Lake and Willard Bay on spinners and plastics. They also hit the hardbaits popularl with wiper trollers.[/#0000ff]

One nice thing about yesterday was no power boats to speak of. The few that were on the lake were north of us and not many of those. I guess the lightning, rain and clouds kept them away. The wind was helpful at times but must of the time I had to use the trolling motor to keep the bait moving and Geoff only got hung up in the main engine twice and trolling motor once.

[cool]Hey, I resemble that remark! I missed my couple of bigfish opportunities that morning, but it was a great time out on the water with Allen. I'll get a big kittie next trip...
