Hi-I live in Arizona (too hot!) and will be visiting Park City next week for a family reunion. All I really want to do is sneak off and go fishing, though. Can you please help me with some specific areas (Provo River or?) where I can take my son and we can catch some nice fish? I would truly appreciate your insight, as I've heard that this area has some good fishing. Have a super day![Smile]

[cool]Hi, i'll do my best to help you out a little, there are some great lakes in that area....Jordanelle, Deer Creek and rockport are the closest. But a little more info from you would help alittle, will you have a boat or are you looking for shore fishing also is there a specific type of fish you like to target or do you just want to catch some fish?

Welcome to the site Azgirl, I hope one of us can give you some useful information that will help you when you come up here next week. There are a lot of people that fish the Provo River and the area around Park city but it would help if you could give us a little more info. I'm guessing you want to catch trout? Are you planning on fly, spin or bait fishing? WH2

I don't have a boat. Yes, trout are what I like to catch, and eat! We are camping at the Park City RV resort if that helps with proximity. Either lure casting or fly fishing are my preferred methods. I really appreciate your help! Also, if you could recommend a nearby tackle shop. Thanks!

[black][size 3]Hey there azgirl,[/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Welcome to BFT and Utah ![/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]In that area, you can take Hi-way 80 east and get off at the Rockport exit and go left under the freeway. There you can drive just a short way and find some good trout (both spin and fly fishing) in the Weber river between Rockport Reservoir and Echo Reservoir. Also, both of those reservoirs have some good fishing available for the shore angler.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Jordanelle is just east and south a little ways (there is good fishing there) - take Hi-way 40 - you can't miss it. Or you can continue on 40 to Heber City then take 189 and go to Deer Creek (good fishing there as well). [/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]If you continue west on 189 it goes down Provo canyon (real pretty drive) and along the Provo River (also good fishing almost anywhere on that river) Check your Utah State fishing proclamation for more info on the different sections of the Provo for specific regulations.[/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Also, a short drive west on Hi-way 80 towards SLC you will find East Canyon Reservoir by taking Hi-way 65 north up Mountain Dell canyon(Mountain Dell Reservoir also has trout ). That is a very pretty drive as well.[/size][/black]

Good advice from fishhound. My personal preference out of those would be the provo river either below jordanelle or below deer creek. world class fishing and only fly or artificial lures are allowed so no big bait fishing crowds.(not to say its deserted) sorry i dont know any good tackle shops up there. If you're driving in from AZ hit sportsmans warehouse. Just take the university avenue exit (#263) and keep going north about 1 mile and it will be on your right. easy off and on the freeway. They will know about the area your going to and help with some tips. hope this helps.

I forget the name, but there's a fly shop on 8th north in Orem just east of State Street in a mini strip mall on the south side of the road (just north of University Mall). I'm not a fly fisherman, but I went in to check it out and the guys I talked to seemed to know what's up as far as trout are concerned. Might be worth checking out if you plan to hit the Provo.

I'm surprized that nobody has mentioned the High Uinta lakes. There are dozens of roadside lakes that are perfect for kids, and the scenery is the by far the best in the state if you like alpine terrain. And many of the lakes are only an hour away from Park City, just head towards Kamas and up the Mirror Lake Highway. Some of the places that have fished well this year are Pass Lake, Butterfly Lake, and sometimes Washington Lake.

Good luck!
