Hello everyone! My name is Luey and I am a begginer bass fisherman and pontoon fisherman.
I started this summer and I am still trying to figure out the pontoon as well as the fishing technics, before now I had been fishing for catfish and whatever else took my bait of the bottom of the river/lake.
Originally from the midwest but relocated to Arizona 2 years a go.

I hope to learn quite a bit from such an experienced group.

Welcome to the site Luey. You've definitely found the best place for help getting going. There's a lot of people here who have been doing a lot of fishing for a lot of years. For answers to a bunch of questions on some of the basics of tubing/tooning, feel free to check out the BEST OF THE BEST board along with the UPDATE for the past couple years. Both are located at the top of this board. Lots of good stuff there.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. I just moved back to Utah after living (and tubing) almost 20 years in Arizona. Spent the first few years in the Tucson area and then Mesa and Chandler. I have fished just about every body of water in the state and have tubed the Sea of Cortez a lot too. Will be glad to help with suggestions on spots and techniques.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What part of the state do you call home?[/#0000ff]

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I live in Yuma, the southern most corner of the state, right at the border with California and about 20 minutes from Mexico. I will definatly be asking you all some questions.

[cool][#0000ff]Very familiar with Yuma. Have fished all up and down the Colorado River since the 60's. Mittry, Martinez and Fortuna pond are all good tubin' and toonin' spots. Also some nice backwaters along the river. There are a couple of bass tubin' clubs over there. You should look at joining.[/#0000ff]

I plan on going to Fortuna pond this weekend but I am not sure I will take my pontoon. I saw some water snake skimming the surface sometime a go, it was trying to get away from us but still. Better safe than sorry. I want to fish around the islands there and the weeds are almost to the surface so I don't think I want to have my feet in there.
I have not heard of any tube fishing clubs here but I will do a search. Thanks again.

[cool][#0000ff]Clubs come and go, and it has been awhile since I was in Yuma. Check with the tackle shops and look for things on the bulletin boards. Ask the owners and they will probably know.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You don't have to worry much about snakes in the water. The water snakes and gopher snakes are harmless. Not many diamondbacks in the area, but there are some Mojave rattlers up the river. I used to fish below the Palo Verde Wier, north of Blythe, and the snakes would come toward our light when we were bank fishing at night. There are a few sidewinders, but they are small and do not go near water much.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you haven't done so yet, you need to fish below Laguna Dam at night...for those monster flathead cats. [/#0000ff]

I was actually by Laguna dam a couple of week a go, practicing dropshooting and texas rig, had a few bites but could not land a fish. The current and wind was pushing me around so it was different for me and it took a while to get comfortable with the anchor and positioning in the water. It was still fun. It was a little hard getting in the water because there is no easy access to the river in that area, maybe next time I try launching at Betty's kitchen.
