I have been seeing some random posts lately and was wondering if anyone knew where they were coming from. Look at the last post here. Link

They are going by different log in names also.
I deleted three off the FF board this morning. Tube Dude has got the same people or person, but I can't delete those.
If you see one on either the Utah or General FF board, just let me know.

[black]I have some rather strong feelings on this subject. [/black]

This has occurred several times during the past few months, and only recently has it become a real pain.

Do you think that it may be time for the ability to post be limited to only registered members of the forum?

[black]One other thing that I think that would help, is for those who register, at least post their area in the world where they are located. We get questions about various subjects, and can't answer them because solutions that apply in Florida, do not apply in Wyoming.[/black]

This is a great source of information for anyone interested in the sport, and will get bigger and better if controlled. There will always be those idiot comments that show up, but that's just human nature. And yes, sometimes (too often) the subject matter gets side tracked, and sounds like a sewing circle forum, but it is a public forum, and people will be people.

I would be interested in hearing how other members feel about these matters.

I am with you on that one Saberfish. It would not suprise me in the least to see them connected to Mal-ware or spy-ware.

I am no expert here but it looks to me like someone was trying to post a link on the page and did not do it properly.. i.e. the double http:// references.. if it is not done properly in html (code behind these pages) then you get a busted link.. and that is what that looks like to me.. while it is probably not spam or virus it is still something worh checking in to to make sure the site is still secure..
just my .02...

I have been knocking down several of these types of posts on a daily basis. They spur up very often but I am usually able to get them when I am not out fishing.
I just got back (at the time of this posting) to find my PM mail box crammed full of notices. Thank you to those whom have advised me.
I am seriously thinking of having a vote on closing the board to non-members. All are welcome to comment on this but of course, we will need the final decision to be made by my partner TubeDude.
He is higher in rank and will be able to influence the elders of the tribe to do such a task if deemed absolutely necessary.
I encourage all to share in the vote.[cool]

[black]I agree with your solution, and have posted my opinion already, but did not get much of a reaction from other members.[/black]

I think that Papa has a strong opposing feeling about this situation, so I'll just stand by and watch for a change. Wish that I had the technical knowledge and authority to do something about it.

No need to have a vote. The Dude has already put down his inflatable hand in the upper room.
That make it a unanamous vote.
Hooray! No more spam on this board. Our next step would be to make the whole board non-postable to all non members. That would eliminate many needless hours on behalf of all the Mods.
We are trying our best to keep this site in order and user friendly for all members.
We welcome any comments and invite any questions to all members.
At times, we all wish that we could just push a magic button and make the world a better place. Since no such button exists, we need to find a different way of doing things.
Thank you for your help and concern in this matter.[cool]

I agree totally with the decision to make it a postable site by members only.. I was dumb the other nite and tried and succeeded to get one of the links to work. Then I got hit by a major barrage of spy ware ads... meaning I got caught up in a spyware link.. so I shut down and loaded some software to rid my computer of the problem. I am very happy to say the download was successfull and my computer is doing okay. The bad part in all of this is that I assumed it was simply a mistake by someone making a post. I know better than to make those assumptions or load a site I dont know anything about. I hope my mistake is a reenforcement to everyone here to be more careful that I was.

[cool][#0000ff]I have been deleting them as quickly as I notice them, and I have even tried banning the ISP addresses. But, they evidently have their own server and keep changing addresses as quickly as they are banned.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have requested that the Float Tubing Boards be made "members only". I didn't want that to happen because we get a lot of drop ins and guests with a single question or problem and who do not want to register just to ask it. But, if that is what it takes to get rid of the idiots, then that is what we will do.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have a request in to the admins to remove "guest posting privileges". Hope it happens soon and that it solves the problem.[/#0000ff]

Not soon enough Pat. The post just above this one got hit too.

[#0000ff]Hopefully we can get a fix soon.[/#0000ff]

The goon is back at it again. I have zapped a dozen freshones this morning alone.![crazy]

[cool][#0000ff]I just whacked another one on this board. That makes about six so far since last night.[/#0000ff]

Keep at 'em boys...the spam is getting ridiculous. It's too bad that it's 2007 and we're still playing this game. There are too many bored people in the world, we should ship them off to Iraq.

while I do appreciate the work that you and all the other moderators do I just to let ya know that other boards you moderate are getting hit as well.. looks like you and TD and FG and DR (among others) are gonna be busy until a fix is done.. good luck and keep up the good work..

[cool][#0000ff]The admins have put a band-aid on it for now...temporary fix...until they can get more permanent blocking in place. Haven't had any "stuff" for a while now. Hope it is the solution.[/#0000ff]

...I just appreicate that this site is here and I especially appreciate the hard work all the moderators do on this site..

[cool][#0000ff]Okay, okay. Quit tryin' to suck up to the mods. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Seriously, this is not just about moderators. Our job is easy when we have a good group of like-minded members who can maintain basic courtesy and respect while voicing questions or replying to the posts of others. I have visited a whole buncha websites in my computer career and I do not think I have ever found another site where so many misfits could get along so well without heavy controls.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Too bad that the spamming idiots of the cyberworld have to get involved and mess up a good thing for so many other people.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But...thanks for recognizing that our job (moderating) is not always easy. We appreciate the appreciation.[/#0000ff]
