ok, so i went out and bought a berkely rod. great rod, love it, im now fishing with 3 at a time. tonight i went out there, was about to pull it all in and go home, and i got a bite on the berkely rod. i start to reel, but this is a big one, i can tell because its actually pulling the line out on the drag...not even the catfish did that. so im fighting, and i finally get it to the shore--i THINK it was a catfish, not sure, but it was about 2 or a lil more feet long, and had to weigh about 15 lbs. i was about to land it when the hook i was using bent and he popped off, then fell right into the water, looked at me, then started to slowly swim off. i scrambled to get a bigger hook on my swivel and get a worm on there, but to no avail. i guess you can say ive REALLY been bitten by the bug this time, getting just a taste of a really really big one.

I may be time to change hooks to some quality ones. If your hooks bends, or is too brittle then it is time to start looking for some name brand hooks.

I could personally recommend Owner hooks. They have a Mutu medium Circle hook that would be awesome for the catfish. Gamakatsu also make some good circle hooks.

Eagle Claw and Mustad also make good hooks as well and probably a little more affordable to loose when you run into snags.[cool]

[cool] I agree with you tubeN2. I use Owner hooks and Gamakatsu also. I have also used Eagle Claw and some Mustad. You couldn't ask for a better hook. I like using the Gamakatsu ewg for tubes.

I've honestly never had my hooks bend or break even on 20+lbs channel cats, with the exception of those cheep ten for a dollar type pre-tied pickeral rigs. Though I've been using the eagle claw hooks for a while now and I havn't been dissapointed.

im using tru blood hooks, and i had a size 2 on there, because that size gets more bites for me than any other ones. i put like a huge hook on right after that, but the worm just got nibbled off...ill keep an eye out for owner and gamakatsu. im thinkin i might get another box of 12lb line, and when i run out of 14 lb on the lightning rod, i can put 12 on, because the rod is rated for 4-12, and the reel up to 14, and 14 is the size i had just bought, since i bought a zebco 404LE reel prespooled with 15lb, i took it off and put my 12. but then i got 14 for next time.
