I just found out in Aug that there was a dog park over in South Ogden (Glassmond park) that you could let your dog off the leash and have them run around with all sorts of other dogs. My dog (Griffin) loved it, as well as myself and wife. We could go there and in just 10 min he probably got more exercise than what he did when we take him for a walk on his leash. Just recently they have decided to turn it back into another park were dogs are required to have a leash. The reasons:
[ol][li]People didn't feel that they could use the park for anything else (i.e. picnic's, walks, etc...)[/li][li]Traffic[/li][li]Dog's barking[/li][li]People that lived outside of South Ogden were coming up and using the park[/li][/ol]There were others but these are the ones that I heard the most of. So what do people think of these non-leash dog parks? And what do you think about the reason's as to why this one was turned back into a leash park?

[black]In my opinion, probably the biggest reason for the leash law is improper training or a complete lack there of on the part of many dog owners - i.e. liability. It's a shame, but a reality that we as responsible dog own-ies have to live with. [/black]

It's a shame they want to close it down for the dogs.I really thought it was going well there and was nice and close to my house.

I live close to that park but did not know it was a dog park. I should have known because the other day we got there and as we were walking to the tables, three other cars/trucks pulled up and they all had dogs. Some of the dogs were off their leash and were roaming around others were leashed and seemed worried when the unleashed dogs approched Most of the owners were yelling at their dogs trying to get them to obey. I saw no fights while we were there but I sure can see how one could happen. I see nothing wrong with a dog park as long as the owners have some control over their dogs, but just as fishound stated, not a lot of owners train their dogs that well. Welcome to the

Thanks fishhound my dog is a lab-Sheppard (Australian) mix. He looks more German Sheppard than Australian but his brothers and sisters all had the blue merle and blue eyes, he was the odd dog out.
As for the dog park not once did I ever see any dogs there that were off leash and probably shouldn't have been. The one's that were not trained very well the owners would just keep their dog's on a leash it seemed. But I also agree, I can only imagine what would have happened if someone's dog would have hurt a kid. Probably the owner (who should be held accountable) and the city would have been sued for millions in this sue happy culture we live in . It is too bad though that they got rid of it.
