haven't been out too much this year but here are a few bass we have pulled out of mantua this summer. smoke with black flake senkos but I would love to learn how to catch em on something like a popper or spinner bait and somewhere besides around the point

nice fish there. that first dad pic[

] is a fatty!
poppers and spinnerbaits are all about timing and location. But if you're on them with one of those techniques, it can be a blast!

hey porta homer, those are some nice lmb. i havent ever targeted the lmb, but i have caught alot of small mouths on top water baits. excluding spinner baits. but ill bet the same tactics work for lmb. as for myself iv'e always done well with a heddon tiny torpedo,[ great top water bait] at the gorge, deercreek, lake x, and pinview. while i dont target lmb on topwater baits i have caught quite a few of them, and some tiggers. its a fun way too fish thats for sure. thats about all the top water experiance i can give you, but ill bet some of the lmb fishermen can give you better details on spinnerbaits and top water. tight lines, jon

To answer the topwater question is a tough one. If the water is glass and clear water, stick to baits that "walk the dog" or Pop-R style baits that spitter and pop in the water are alwasys good.

[#000080]If you know the fish are a little less active due to pressure and know righ were to throw try the old reliable 4'' black and silver floating Rapala. My two biggest Bass both came on this. [/#000080]

[#000080]On almost all topwater baits cast them out and wait for the rings to float away around 10 seconds or so. Some of the biggest explosions you'll have on topwater will come with it just sitting there. Bass are very territorial and invaders piss them off pretty easy. If they are there most of the time they will come up and nudge it so watch closely.[/#000080]

[#000080]Bass are going to be schooling up now so topwater is very deadly.[/#000080]

[#000080]PS- If there is a little chop on the water don't forget the old Buzzbait![/#000080]

I like to work the top with weightless tube jigs and pop'rs and frogs.
Ill pitch almost any were theres shade cover into the trees and moss.
I love working a frog or tube over moss lines and pausing them over the holes and letting them submerge at the end.
Poppers like above stated let them sit for a bit.
spinner baits work great work them across weed lines along structure example falling trees both sides. you can rip them along so there barely under the surface or just inch them along were there barely spinning the blades. there a great sub surface and deep water lure.
