Are there any places better than others? I was told to go to the Soldier side near rocks but haven't fished Strawberry for years. I have a boat so I'd like to throw out the trap and fish for a while in between checking the trap. I imagine the classic chicken leg would work, right?

When I was there earlier in the year right around teh island worked out great. Yea along the rocks, I used dad traps and knocked it dead, I used chicken skins. But any meat should work good luck

We did good last weekend on the SC side from the shore with the chicken leg on a string. We crossed over the dam, passed the marina, and took the first dirt road down to the waters edge and threw the leg into the weed bed. It helped to have a net to help get them out of the water. At some point we also tied some legs to the net and sank in on the weeds and then waited 20 minutes and then went and quickly picked it up. Hope that helps

The south shore of Indian Creek Bay between Indian Creek inlet and Renegade Campgrounnd has always filled my buckets.

There may be some parts of the Berry and SC that are better than others, but there are no bad spots that I have ever found.

I mostly hit the area by the dam. lost of rocky areas.
I use chicken backs, they get seperated when I buy a whole cut up chicken and are for Daddin. You can usally buy them for about .15 per pound as they are only good for broth or Daddin.
Traps are OK, but do not hesitate to string out 5 baits like a trot line and use the boat to retrieve them. Set the line in about 15' of water.

Good info Troll: We have good decent luck right near the dam for catching crawdads. However, I'm trying to get my boys to catch an actual fish Big Grin

They're not to good with casting yet, so we're sticking to 'bait'. Anybody have any ideas on getting these guys into the 'fish catcher' category from the shore?

We went to chicken creek two weeks ago for crawfish, it slowed down. I think it was probably because of the weather (getting cold). Is it still good at SC? Is it still good at this time of year? I want to go again.

sc side. drop traps right of the boat ramp at aspin grove. the bugs are thick there.

I caught all I wanted right next to the boat ramp at Renegade. I just used a net. It was almost sporting.[Wink]

Awesome guys, thanks. I hope I can squeeze some time in this weekend to get up there. I never realized there were so many up there untill I started looking into it. My daughter loves to catch 'dads...well, loves to watch me grab them and scream like a girl when it pinches me [blush]. A little off the subject but do the trout feed aggresively on the crawdads up at the berry?

I've used a crawdad pattern before on a fly rod with sinking line. I've caught a couple doing that, but still prefer a leech pattern at the Berry. Good luck. My girls love catching them too.
