[black]My grandson, age 11, has recently developed a urge to tie flies. This weekend the pressure was really on me, so I gave in, and was really surprised to find that the kid has more natural talent than most that I have taught in the past.[/black]

Anyway, this interest and activity ended up with him putting pressure on his parents to go fishing. The middle of Sunday afternoon, off they go to Grantsville for the first time this year. They arrived to find the water level very low, and quite productive. In a few hours, using fly and bubble setup, they caught and released 26 pan sized rainbow. I didn't get a full report on the patterns they used, but I assume that they were along the lines of wolley buggers or leaches.

The high or low point for me is that I may have created a fly tying monster. The grandson is like his grandpa, jumping with both feet into anything he developes an interest in. The kid is quite artistic, and has a good eye for proportions (he can draw like a demon).

It's nice to post a actual fishing report, even though it is second hand. Hopefully in the not too distant future, it will be my own report.

I've been sneaking out there on late afternoon trips. The bank fishers are using worms and powerbait with a fish here and there. The real action is out on the water dragging a fly. All have been in between 12-14". When the sun ducks behind the mountain there are trout surfacing everywhere. I've only caught two small bass in about 4' of water but watched a tuber pull one in that was an easy 1 1/2 lbs. I don't think there is any stopping the bass now, not that I'm complaining.
Here's the competition, she always outfishes me, I've created a monster.

WHAT DID I HEAR YOU SAY?!?!?!?!? Grantsville has BASS?!?!?! When did they put them in there? I tell you what, I think its about time. I couple of years ago we went snorkeling out there and dove down about 15 to 20 feet. We were trying to catch the crayfish. There is NO structure, but the bottom had a litteral carpet of 'dads. Something needed to be in there to eat those little bugs.

They were illegaly planted in there. A 'bucket biologist' from what I gather. The DWR wants you to kill all bass caught...there may not be much structure but there is plenty of food to support a bass population. I'm not quite sure how long they have been in there, maybe a couple of years, if they have a healthy spawn and make it through the winter I can't imagine there would be any stopping them. (Smallmouth bass)
