DURHAM, N.H. -- Herring fishermen and dealers should be aware that herring
spawning areas within the jurisdiction of New Hampshire will be closed from<br />
12:01 a.m. on September 21, 2007, through 12:01 a.m. on October 20, 2007<br />
(pursuant to closure regulations Fis 603.07), according to the New Hampshire<br />
Fish and Game Department.
During this spawning closure, all vessels fishing for species other than sea<br />
herring will be limited to an incidental catch of 2,000 pounds of herring<br />
per calendar day, caught in or from the management area subject to a<br />
spawning closure.
Any person, firm or organization properly permitted, may land sea herring<br />
from areas not under spawning closures, provided they are equipped with a<br />
functional vessel monitoring system.
