Hello all, I know it's early. But, last year I was able to taste my first pheasant. My mouth has been watering every since. Anyway, I was wondering if there is a good area to hunt them near Ogden? That's not private land? I have never been able to hunt them before and am excited to find a few. Thanks in advance Troutlover

Hunting public land for pheasant in Utah is mostly an exercise in futility. Once in a while you get lucky, but with so much pressure on so little land you just have to be in the right place at the right time. It is mainly just a chance to get out and get some exercise for yourself and your dog. Unless you go to the midwest or a pheasant farm, you have two chances for pheasants on public land, slim & none for the most part. Mr. J.

The only public areas in weber county are the state wildlife management areas. Ogden Bay would be the main one in weber county. There are decent numbers of pheasants in ogden bay but the cover is thick and a good dog a must. I have a friend that took limits every day he hunted there last year. It can be done. The average hunter should go and enjoy being in the outdoors. If you harvest a rooster it would be a bonus. Remember if you hunt the waterfowl areas you must follow shooting hours and shoot non toxic shot. gshorthair

We (my brother and I and dad) hunted wild pheasants in my dads hometown in central utah for many, many years and didn't realize how good we had it. About 6 years ago it became a thing of the past.
I hunted all season in that place last year (what little land I could) and managed to shoot one wild pheasant. I had it mounted as it is probably the last wild pheasant I might ever shoot. In the meantime...gamefarms are your friend. (Your expensive friend...to the tune of about $15.00 per bird!)

Attached is a pic of my 2006 Wild Pheasant, which now flies silently on my living room wall!

Is there such a thing here any more? I haven't hunted wild birds here in a very long time. Just not worth the effort.
