well it was anouther great trip at the gorge this weekend, we left on sunday the 23rd at 7:30 am, we finaly got there at 10:00 and took a right in manila and headed toward brownie lake. as soon as we got there i b-lined it to the river and made my first cast bellow the spill way and nothing. ive allways hit two or three fish in that hole. so i moved down stream and fished three holes in a row with the same resultes, i couldnt believe it ive allways done well on this river. finally i caught a brookie that went ten inches. and that was all for me, my two freinds both caught one each also. so we hit the road and went up to spirit lake but a mile before we got there the snow started comming down so we pulled over and decided if we wanted to keep going higher, we were in a awd vehical and he just bought it and wasent sure how good it was in the snow. so we stoped and fished the river for a while and caught a brown then decided to keep going up to the lake. when we got there, there was 3" of snow and the lodge was boarded up for the year[i thought they guided elk trips?] so no lunch there. but we decided to fish the lake and that turned out to be a blast, we caught alot of fish from 10-12" and at one time i caught four in a row while a guy was watching me., i love doing that lol. next morning we were going out with jim so we headed back to get some zzzs. well we woke up to a horrible storm, with the wind blowing and some snowflakes in my face as i looked out the door. so i called jim to see what he thought about this beutifull weather, and as the great guide that he is he had allready looked at some satellight pics and said the storm was still nasty in evingston [not spelled right like alot of outhers lol] and at this time i wasent sure if it was a snowflke that hit me in the face or if i was crying. so he said call me in a half hour and well go from there, so a half hour went by and it was the same thing nasty weather so we talked, and i talked with my freinds and we worked it out luckly jim had an opening for tuesday, and luckly i was with a forman from my work that called the boss and got us anouther day off. but jim gave us some info on the green river wich i havent ever fished even though ive gone too the gorge my whole life, so we went to get some gas at the chevron and when we got there the lady told us not to pick up eny hich hikers because she was called earlyer and was told two people broke out of the prision earlyer that night. lol pick up a hich hiker NO WAY. so we took off to the green when we got there the storm had settled. i tied on a lure and on my first cast bam a nice 16" brown, wow jims tips did it agian. so me and my freinds walked down river and we all kept catching fish. and just when we started thinking we should have gone out with jim, i started crying agian, oh wait that was a huge snow flake that smaked me right in the face. it started raining after then snow then sleet, oh boy it was fun lol, and it all happend after we had hiked a mile away from the truck. so we headed back and actually went cliff climbing to shorten our rout, and as soon as we were done doing the fun wet slippery climb the weather broke again, so were sitting there soked and tired while an osprey fly's by with a fish in his talons AWSOME, so the die hards that we are we decide to fish agian we walked down to the end of the cliff and looked down just in time to see a 5lb fish go sideways in the water , so we cast to him and his four buddies and got one of the smaller fish. drenched we keeped walking back up stream and when we got out of the cliffs we seen some rising fish, so i took five cast's at the and i was just shy of the rising fish so i looked down at my pants that looked like leather they were so wet, looked up at the snow, looked ahead at rising fish, and decided its time too fish so i just waded in there and became one with the ice feeling suroundings. it was crazy but peacefull at the same time, i ended up catching one of those rising fish, a brown 16" long, and one of the hardest most beutifull fish i have ever seen we fished anouther hour with 3 more fish then headed to the hotel.when we got back my freind wanted to go shooting, and i wanted warmth, so he left and me and my outher freind stayed behined. when he got back after dark he said he went shooting and came back to his vehicale just to find three federal vehicals sourounding his suv. lol he said it scared him becuse he was brown and so was the guy that broke out. they let him go on his way. latter that evening the feds took over the hotel, every room but ours, that was a trip lol. tuesday morning we woke up to clear skys oh yeah, i dont have to call jim this mornig, we meet at the dock and i looked out on the water just to see the sunrise hit the lake and make three pretty shades of color blend on the water with fog rising above.and off we go, sweet my second time with jim in a month. we get to our spot and jim shows us the do's and dont's and as he's showing us the do's he gets a bite, i felt normal with his miss lol, after that he gets to buisness agian and while showing us he gets anouther hit and this time he shows me why im a rookie ,FISH ON wow i couldnt believe it, he started shaking the pole to get it off to save our embaressment. so we begain fishing and after some hits i hooked up. and right away i knew it was bigger then the one i caught last trip [17lbs] man this fish had some fight in him. i cant tell you how hard it was to reel this fish in after the previous days took a toll on my body and know im fishing on a cold day with sore tight muscles and a fish that wont give up, every time i reeled up 20ft he'd take it back, then i thought he was tired and reeled in 40ft and he took it right back this went on for some time but i finaly got him in the boat [24lbs] man was i worn out then, but jim, the guide that he is gets you motivated and says drop them down again boys. so we did and a little while later i hooked up agian and the fight was on, oh man i love this shi# the pole bending, your drained, and your freinds that have never seen eny thing like this in there lives are freaking out woundering if they can hook something like this........ priceless i get him up to the boat and seen some nice lenght, and said whahoooooooo this guy was nice, not a whole lot of girth but some nice lenght. later on my freind denice hooked up with one and after a great fight and some good runs he landed it, i took a picture while he seen jim net it, and it turned out to be the happiest time of his life. i meet both these guys at work and they both grew up in the getto's. after that pic i took some more, he tried to not and look cool but he couldn't handle it, he had to . i looked at my freind alen and said it's your turn bud, well he just couldn't get down the hookset. he tried, tried, and tried again but just couldnt hook up. we started joking around at one point and said you have to jerk the pole to catch a fish, even jim said that's the best techniuqe on the lake. so after we reeled up and went to anouther spot jim said he would put a hook on his lure this time, hee hee that got us all laughing our ass'es off. but it worked not to long after he hooked up and after a good fight with a hook filled lure he landed it. it went 18lbs after a coulple pics we hit it agian and five minutes later alen had a hookup he reeled down twice then the fish came off. that convinced me jerk the pole when a fish hit's and have a hook in it lol. jim worked his butt off for us today we fished until they wouldnt even look at our lure enymore. he's the best guide a true diehard fishermen could ever find. the s he puts on your face must be a great payoff for him, he has given me two memorable trips that will last a life time, THANKS AGAIN JIM. and as far as pics go ill let him post them for me if he wants for two resons, i dont know how to post pics and i dont know how to block out the background. and if your reading this don in denver i hope you have a good trip next week and meybe well see eachouther on the ice. tight lines BIGFIH6.
