Stamford, Connecticut - VERSUS announces a strategic partnership with The Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) to launch Candidates on Demand, a video-on-demand television platform that poses America's outdoor issues to the 2008 Presidential candidates. The country's sportsmen community will now have a platform to have their questions and concerns addressed by future political leaders. Candidates on Demand will spotlight the 2008 Presidential candidates from both parties with a one-on-one Q&A session that can be seen on VERSUS.com as well as on VERSUS on Demand beginning December 13.
Latest figures estimate that more than 34 million Americans are sportsmen and women, who spend upwards of $76 billion annually on their outdoor pursuits. After the last two Presidential elections, it has become clear that hunters and anglers are an active and concerned voting constituency. Candidates who focused on hunting and fishing issues garnered media awareness across the country and no doubt will receive major attention again during the 2008 election.
"With more than 34 million Americans participating in outdoor activities, sportsmen are undeniably an important constituency to the 2008 Presidential candidates," said Gavin Harvey, President of VERSUS. "Part of our mission to be the preeminent destination for outdoor programming is to expand the hunting and fishing community base, and give a voice to the issues that are important to them-with the upcoming Presidential election, and in the ever-changing digital era, this is the perfect platform for our country's political leaders to connect with this group."
VERSUS and CSF will pose eight to ten questions on key topics that impact hunting and fishing. Topics may include: access for hunting and fishing, energy, marine protected areas, wilderness areas, conservation tax easements, among others. Candidates will be allowed to discard only two of the questions.
"American sportsmen know that their passion for the outdoors must be matched with active participation in the political process. Lawmakers and regulators make decisions every day that affect sportsmen. Hunters and anglers take those decisions into account when they vote. Candidates on Demand will give sportsmen the opportunity to make informed decisions when they go to the polls next November," said Jeff Crane, President of CSF.
CSF is the most respected and trusted hunting and fishing organization in the political arena. With support from every major hunting and fishing organization, CSF is the leader in promoting sportsmen's issues with elected officials. CSF works directly with the bi-partisan, bi-cameral Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus in the U.S. Congress, as well as affiliated state sportsmen's caucuses in 33 state legislatures around the country.
VERSUS (VERSUS.com) celebrates real competition in all its forms. Now in more than 74 million homes, the network is the national cable home of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Stanley Cup Playoffs as well as best-in-class events like The Tour de France, the America's Cup, the Professional Bull Riders (PBR), World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), Professional Boxing, the Boston Marathon and Davis Cup. The network also offers collegiate sports from top conferences such as the Pac-10, Big 12 and Mountain West.
