Really needed to get out in spite of the weather so I hit Utah Lake about 7:30am. Steady, warm wind from the South so I started trolling the North side of the State Park dike. Picked up a dink on a spinner and a keeper using a rapala just past the bouys.
After about 10 minutes, the warm south wind swung around to a chill northwest wind pushing up a sizeable chop. I hustled around to the south and headed up the river.
For the next hour I pulled a whitie about every five minutes on both the spinner and the rapala. I stopped to cast whenever I got one trolling but couldn't find a school.
Finally found some by the carp pens. The spinner kept getting the dinks so I swapped it for a medium depth bass plug. After that I was able to focus more on the bigger bass.
In about 2 1/2 hours total I probably snagged 30 or so. Kept some of the biggest for feasting and let the rest keep growing.
When I headed back to the lake it was blowing like crazy. Fortunately my trailer not too heavy so I used the old ramp on the river and avoided the whitecap circus.
Didn't realize how cold I was until I quit fishing and got to the cleaning station. Boy was I glad to tuck those fillets away and head home to the hot shower.
All in all a great start to a cold, rainy day.
