Talk about bad luck. What a way to go. I feel sorry for them and their family.

[black]I believe that older couple in the RV park that was from Colorado that we talked to down there was the couple that was killed. We told them about going to Lake Canyon because we were in there every day pulling out 100+ fish a day. I sure hope I'm wrong.[/black]

My wife and I were there and saw that pontoon boat just a little while before that happened, and I was hoping they would leave so we could get their spot in that little alcove. It sure could have been us instead. I posted the story in Wayneswords yesterday and today.

Didnt that older couple in the motorhome by us have a regular v-hull boat? It was a pontoon style that was involved in the tragedy.

[#0000ff][/#0000ff] Colorado couple believed killed in Lake Powell rock fall identified The Salt Lake Tribune Article Last Updated: 10/03/2007 08:56:52 AM MDT
The couple believed killed by a rock that fell on their boat at Lake Powell have been identified as Mary and Donald Simmons, of Calhan, Colo.
Rangers recovered the body of Mary Simmons, 59, on Friday. The search continued Tuesday for her husband, Donald Simmons, 64, who is presumed dead.
A 250-square-foot rock slab broke from an alcove and capsized the couple's pontoon boat near Lake Canyon, about five miles downriver from Halls Crossing and Bullfrog.
Other boaters, who found the capsized vessel, told authorities they had passed the boat and waved to two people onboard about 20 minutes before the boat tipped over. The boaters contacted authorities about 3:15 p.m. Friday to report the accident.
Divers on Tuesday continued to search for the Donald Simmons. An underwater robot was also being used. Donald Simmons was an avid horseman who played guitar and sang at his church, while Mary enjoyed fishing, said Donald's older brother, Wesley.
"We're just hoping they can locate his body and get them both back here so there can be closure," Wesley Simmons said. "I just hope and pray he's not under that big rock," Wesley Simmons said.

[black]The first day we were at the cleaning station, an old guy came up to talked to us. It was the same day a-b and his buddy were there cleaning their fish also. He was dressed in jeans, a western plaid shirt and a ball cap. We talked and told the old boy where we were fishing in lake canyon in pretty good detail.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Throughout our stay, we chatted with this old boy occasionally. Guess him and his wife had their boat docked at the marina instead of putting it in and out of the water which was a big pain for him to do alone. I don't ever recall seeing his boat so I can't be for sure he was the guy but by his clothing and manner, he sure fits the profile of a guy who spent time around horses and his age was about right.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Like I said, I'm not sure but if his RV was at the RV park or if he was mooring his boat at the marina docks; it could of been the same old boy. Anyway, I guess I'll never really know and I feel bad for whom ever it was but there are worse ways to go. When its all said and done, being buried by a big rock is pretty unique! If it's my time to pass on, that would be a better way to go than a lot of others I can think of.[/black]

Thats a
deal for sure. You never know when its your turn?? M.H.

[black]Hi, a-b,[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]We check your spot out for a while. We figured if we could stay closer and catch as many fish without burning so much fuel, we'd try that. No, we did not have the sucess you had had the day before. We tried it for a few hours then headed down to Lake Canyon and caught fish on the jig bite. That jig bite was a serious no brainer. [black]It was good meeting you guys! Hope we can hook up some time again![/black]
