Took a hike up Wheeler Creek yesterday. When I was up about a mile or so, I heard an elk bugle. I have been told by several people that there is not an elk herd around there, but have also been told by a few that there are. I am sure what I heard was a bugle, but could have been someone practicing with their call I guess.

Anyone know whether there is a herd up there or not?

I was up there on a spring hike a couple of years back and came across a winter killed elk. I'd say they are definately in the area during the winter.

I would tend to thiink that there is aherd in there. There was a large hurd that was over on the trappers side for years until the road went in and they got slammed hard. I am sure that some of these elk made it through and are in that area.
