Wow, today I was able to assist the DWR electro shock fish on the Weber River, to study the fish counts. Arrived at the Ogden DWR office at 8am and met several other volunteers, mostly dedicated hunters getting in their service hours last minute. Anyways after signing my life away to the state we headed off to our first location. We where in South Ogden off of I-84 and the work began. It was a blast netting some nice size browns, largest being 23.5”. All the trout were measured and weighed and the rest where just counted. There is plenty of food for the trout in this river. All in all it was a day of hard work and fun seeing the browns, tigers and bows as well as all the little suckers. We hit two locations which we went through twice. Some areas where very difficult with water slightly below chest level and trying not to be shocked was quite the challenge. With a small leak on my right leg and my pants getting wet and the water slowing dripping in I would get a shock every so often in that leg. My leg is still jerking from the after affects along with my sore muscles.

It was great getting to know several DWR biologists and they where very friendly to work with. I hope to be able to help out again someday!
