[black]For those of you die-hard Bear Lake fishermen, you might be surprised to find a lack of parking at the Bear Lake State Park Marina this fall and winter. It seems the new manager at the park is allowing many sailboats and rental boats to park for overwinter storage in the middle of the marina parking lot. This leaves little space for those of us who want to go fishing or boating this fall and winter. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Yes, you may park in overflow parking up on the hill across the highway from the marina but who wants to scale the hill in the snow/ice that is going to arrive soon at Bear Lake so someone who isn't using the facility can store their boat in the PARKING LOT? As of this morning, there were only 6 parking spots for truck/trailers. If you think this is an issue, you may want to contact the state park and let them know what you think.[/black]

[black]There is no reason the sailboats and rental boats can't park up on the hill where they are supposed to store boats for the winter. In addition there is a sign that says, "loose trailers will be towed" down at the marina. Aren't trailers with boats left in the middle of the parking lot considered "loose trailers"? The marina parking lot was never meant to be a storage area. It was meant for boaters and fishermen to park their vehicles and trailers near the ramp.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]If you think this is unfair, do as I am doing and contact the state park manager and tell him what you think of the lack of parking made available to those of us who use the ramp and facilities year round![/black]

[#002850]What the ???

First they replace our way nice roomy men's dressing room with an itsy bitsy one, now they plug up the parking lot with non-active non-user trailers. I wonder if they will replace the "no loose trailer parking" sign with "loose trailer parking encouraged".

So, how's fishing up there BLM?

I just sent this to both addresses!

It has come to my attention that there are currently a large number of sail boats and rental boats occupying the parking spaces at the marina, and that today there were only 6 parking spaces available. As winter weather approaches, I'm concerned about having to park on the hill and negotiate the walk up and down in snowy and icy conditions. It seems to me that boats and trailers removed for the season should be parked out of the way of the general public so that year-round day users can have safe access to the boat ramp and parking. I hope you will consider making more parking available to those of us who wish to use the facility from now until the "summer" boats and trailers are removed from the area. Seasonal "wintering" should not take place in parking areas adjacent to the boat ramp. It presents a hazard, serious and unfair inconvenience, and will discourage and possibly eliminate usage of the park facility.

Well said TJ

I sent my comments off, thanks for the heads up.

I just sent mine off.[mad]

I emailed Richard and expressed my concern.

I wonder if the guy up there also runs the construction schedule for the DOT????? Morons.

It makes me wonder if the boat owners are paying for the privilege to park there for the winter. I also wonder if the state is gong to be held responsible for any damage that occurs to those expensive boats while they are parked on state parks property. If I slip and hurt myself on one of those trailer Tongues, who do I sue? The state of Utah, the boat owner, or both?

I sent of an E-mail too....

Keep us informed about what happens....

[black]I also sent my comments to: [/black]'parkcomment@utah.gov' 'Richarddroesbeke@utah.gov'

[black]Here's what I said:[/black]

[black]"I would like to express my concern over the parking problem in the Bear Lake Marina Parking lot. It has been brought to my attention that the parking lot is being used for a storage facility instead of a public parking and staging area. I pay for a State Parks Pass each year so I can use the services of these facilities for their intended uses. I do not believe that I should be forced to endanger the safety of my family and friends for the convince of the wealthy.

[black]I believe the decision to use this parking lot as a storage facility is an irresponsible one and may put the owners or these crafts and the State of Utah, in a financially vulnerable situation as stated by other comments on the above blog.[/black]
[black]Please correct this situation."[/black]

The same thing that you mention here is the same things that I mentioned to him in my Email to him. It will be slippery walking up that hill to get my truck and trailer. [shocked] My BACK!

I talked to the parks folks today and they were not very informative. My feelings is that they want the extra money and the heck with us "off season" folks.

Maybe we should do a group roundup and overwhelm them!

So who really owns the Marina? If the State owns it, when was it turned in open Winter Storage? I think that I agree with Pat on this one. All they care about is the God almighty dollar.
Very poor Judgement in my opinion.

they should use willard south marina as a storage area they close it anyway. Hell no one is using the north marina either
