Last three weeks I have only been able to go fishing once a week. Huge abnormality for me[mad]. Because of this lack of practice, I have been skunked three times now. Last one coming yesterday at Lindon boat harbor. I was in my tube at noon, and got off the water at 3:15. Water temp was 56.7 in the harbor and 58.6 in the main lake. I had one pop-n-drop on a minnow. And one small smack on a black curly tail grub.
The good news is that I can't blame lack of time to go fishing on work. I would have to contribute it to my new hobby of jig painting. Obviously I need to practice that more to since they aren't catching fish[unimpressed].

Glad I went home and took a nap instead.[

[cool][#0000ff]Hey, never blame a skunkin' on anything else to do with fishing...like jig painting. There are plenty of other excuses. Barometer, moon phase, birds flying over, sun coming up in the east. They are all better than your excuse.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It is a transitional time...and one with unsettled weather. Usually better to try to hit the water after two or three days of calm conditions. In Utah? Yeah, right.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]How far did you venture from the harbor entrance...north or south? That whole area should be turning on about now.[/#0000ff]

I thought I liked the Fall in Utah. But this year seems a little different, the weather has been sitting on a spring, up and down dramatically. BTW, I like to go catfishing, I missed the dinner with it. Where would you recommend besides UL? I went to Bountiful pond last week, man, there were about twenty people fishing in a twenty-square-feet area. I can't do that. Please give me some info. Thanks.

[cool][#0000ff]My fishing logs show that I catch cats clear up until at least mid November each year...both from Utah Lake and Willard. I never fish Bountiful Pond. Most of the poor kitties are caught out by locals as soon as it is planted. Not many holdovers.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I plan to hit Willard Bay at least once in the next week. It should be good for smaller (best eating) cats, as well as some stray wipers and walleyes. Use minnows or crawlers. Both work well. The only thing is that it might be tough if you do not have a boat, tube or toon. Most of the fish are moved into deeper water (9' - 10' or deeper) and there is nothing over about 5 or 6 feet (north marina channel) within casting distance for shore fishing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]This fall has been a bouncy barometer time. But, the fish will still feed if you can brave the weather and if you can find them. They are trying to put on some weight for winter.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have been out of town and out of action for a couple of weeks. I plan to change that.[/#0000ff]

I do know that a few "good" days of weather help out. But I wanted to get down there before the little spit came in today.
I headed North, but not very far. My knee is getting to the point I can't venture far. For the most part I stayed in about 3 feet of water up by the reeds because thats where I saw fish. Then I went out deep, 5 feet anyway. I probably only made it 150 yards North and 100 yards West from the North dike.

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry to hear about the knee. Hope it is nothing permanent.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You were probably not in the prime zone. This time of year the best fishing for all species is more south toward the "bubbleup". That is a L-0-0-0-0-0-N-G-G-G-G kick from the mouth of the harbor...especially when it is breezy from the south. But, I usually do well by swinging out into water deeper than 5 feet while dragging bait and then back in shallower as I get nearer the bubbleup. There are almost always fish in that area this time of year. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I really smacked 'em a couple of trips last year and have been trying to work out a shot this year. I am going to use my tube truck to haul my gear down and launch right at the outflow pipe. Saves $5 and a bunch of kicking. Easier to get back in if the wind kicks up too. It is not a very long hike for someone with a lighter tube to carry it down. Let me know when you wanna hit it again and I will introduce you.[/#0000ff]

I know where you are talking about. It is actually the first place I ever launched my tube. Just a little further South is where I usually put in and do well. But I usually go South from there and get some good size cats. When I go North to the bubble up I get small kitties and white bass. Right now I think I'll take anything[crazy].
Monday thru Wednesday next week I will be available to go.

If you drop us a pm before you want to hit that spot we can make a quick trip down to see if the road is open or not. They keep closing it to do whatever it is they are doing. Last week you could get to Lindon boat harbor the regular way but that was as far as they would let you go. Couldn't get to the free launch site from either direction. Every week something different down there is closed.

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, I have stopped in there a couple of times and sometimes they have everything closed off.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I am thinking of trying a couple of walleye spots on the west side...and then hitting the rock ledges at Lincoln Beach.[/#0000ff]

It looks like they have it closed down to one lane at the minimum. You should be able to travel down the road from either way. As far as stopping and parking, I don't know.
