Just got back from a trip to Mada Gorda Texas with my brothers for a great weekend of Redfishing. For those who have never done it, (it was my first time) it was a great experience, they fight like crazy. Thought I would share some of the pics with my Utah fishing buddies. We had two boats with 8 fishermen total, and we all limited out (3 fish each) by noon. It was interesting fishing, we fished in about 3 feet of water the entire time. You use a good size chunk of mullet, (not a haircut) too big for the smaller fish to eat, and let them pick it up and run about 10 yards before setting the hook. You are getting bites constantly from other fish such as several species of salt water catfish, sting rays, and speckled trout and it's hard for a novice to distinguish between them for a while. We got the hang of it after a while, and once you have one on, you know it. We caught 1 stingray, 1 speckled trout, and about 50 catfish. Hope you enjoy the diversion, now I just need to get back up to the Berry with the boat before ice on.

Awesome! I love Redfishing. Next time you go down try fishing them on the flats top water. Throw Zara Spooks in Silver and Red. There are few things funner in life than watching a big Red blow up on top water. If your lucky you'll get a Jack Crealle in the mix. Once you hook a Jack, all other fish are sissies.....EVEN TARPON!

The cat fish with the long fins are real bad if you get stuck...
But they taste real good even better then a fresh water cat....

Thanks for the pics. I talked to a guy from Texas last winter who had never seen a frozen lake before. And he was surprised at the species in Deer Creek. I asked what he fished for and he told me Redfish. Until your pics I had never seen one. They look like a lot of fun.

Thanks for all the reply's, it was really a great trip. I have about 10 LBs of fillets in the freezer but haven't tried them yet. They must be good because when we looked at ordering some in the restaurant there it was $35 a plate. I will be grilling some up blackened this weekend so I will let you know. They really are good fighters, my left shoulder still hasn't recovered fully. I must be getting old. We just fished the way the guide told us to, but thanks for the suggestions on other ways, I would like to try those as well. Now I just need to get that Amazon trip for Peacock Bass planned. That is my dream trip. Can't wait for the ice to come!!!

I actually caught one of those nasty looking Cats. The guide was very, very careful handling it and wouldn't let me near it. My bro caught about a 20 lb. stingray as well, that was a first for this Idaho boy.

My son lives out that way and I went fishing with him, I hooked one of the cats and went to take the hook out and got stuck.... Two hours later I could just about move my arm and hand...
It didn't hurt as much as, just couldn't move it ...[pirate]
So watch your self if you catch one of those cats ....
But love those REDS and sea trout....[cool]
