Debated on posting this report. Sorry for not having any pics. I'm still waiting for my son to return my camera.
Decide to hit rainbow bay instead of my usuall spots. I have been noticing more boats than usual fishing that area. Drove down to near the water (and yes I got tickited for doing so) to launch. Launched at 7:00 am didn't look to see the temp. But it was COLD out! Water temp was 42.
I have beem taking the TD jig making class and was field testing a few. Also I have been experimenting with worm harnesses. You know the one TD. Was using it at Willard for the eyes and the kitties just loved it. Made a mod to it and tried again.
Now let me say here I was not targeting the eyes. Lord knows that spells skunk for me. I was however actively fishing for them with my second pole.
For the trout fisherman here fishing was great! Had my best success with casting bubble and flies. I would tell ya all what they were but I haven't a clue. A friend of mine tied me some and I just kept changing them around to see what didn't work. Nothing I tossed went totally without inqury. Some were just plain hot. particularly a sparkle and white tailed one. Thanks TD thats the most fun I have had with flies in a long time!!!
Oh yeah the eyes of DC are also playful. I had my best day ever. I managed 3 with the largest going just over 3 pounds, the smallest around a pound.
I don't want anyone to think I didn't work for these three fish I kicked back and forth across the lake for 6 hours! I fished from the west point on the south end all the way to just about the end of the day use area. Back and forth across the lake tossing flies and bottom bouncing the crawler rig.
I met a few new fishermen also. A big thanks to Jack. If ya come on and read this please sign up and become a member. I know you have a wealth of information on Walleye fishing.
Until he pulled his boat besides me I had one eye for the day (4 hours of fishing). We chatted a bit, he showed me a few trick of his, exchanged some hardware, and went fishing. His boat didn't move any faster than my tube. I thought he might be doing the Flint Stone thing in that boat!
I fished with Jack in the area for another 2 hours. By then I was worn out and starting to cramp up. I headed for shore just before 1:00 pm and was off the water by 1:15.
Total for the day. One new fishing buddy, more slimers than I counted and three mind you three eyes!!
If I was to rate Deer Creek fishing right now I would say Very Good to Excellent. To complete the report I talked to 4 other anglers all in boats and amazed that I was so far from shore. All had eyes on stringers and two of them were headed in with limits. None had any trout but all said they had picked a couple up trolling for their eyes.
All in all a good day fishing for me. A hot tub and a day or two for the sore muscles to heal up and I'll be at it again.
