A few weeks a go while fishing at a canal I saw something that looked like moss floating on the surface, the following week I saw the same moss like stuff at a lake. I tought the weeds may be dying but yesterday I went to that same canal and I was pulling out weeds while fishing.
What was that stuff? is it surfacing because of the weather changing?

The water temps drop a bit and the moss and algae begin to die. It is happening all over around my place.

typicaly the weeds wont die down untill several weeks of being under ice cover... so the weeds you saw last summer are the same weeds you are looking at now,
if they seem to be floating on the water, that can be from a couple different things, one the water has so much nitrogen the weeds have grown to a mossy top.. two it could be a normal top growing weed like duck weed wich is on top ponds canals and areas of small lakes at this time of year. and lastly it could be that if it is floating on top and not conected to the bottom it is probably mowed weeds, "mowed weeds are weeds that have been cut loose elswhere on the lake by boats and float twards shore..."
