[green][cool]Since most of you folks apparently are not very fond of using a head glue applicator then you are probably using a bodkin to apply the glue. Well over time fine layers of glue get build up causing the bodkin to hold more glue than you may desire. So an empty 35mm film can, and some course steel wool and a few seconds are all we need to construct a nifty bodkin cleaner.[/green]

...what a great idea.. I think.. but dont quote me on this.. I have seen somewhere that you can put a small hole (just larger than the bodkin) in the top of the canister and then slide the bodkin in thru that hole a couple of times and it will clean it.. if memory serves me right the only reason to make that modification is so that you dont have to take the lid off each time you want to clean the bodkin..

I have read that one over and over in a number of places but I have never gotten around to it. I have always just wiped of the bodkin with a paper towel or my pocket knife.

I would not know what to do with the excess steel wool. Last time I had some excess steel wool I had it saved in my tool box for a couple three of years. When I went to use it I found that it was all rusty so it did not work well as steel wooll. Also, It had made a mess in my tool box with all those little rust flakes smearing into the drawers contents. I guess I have always had that in the back of my mind.

...that would be a problem and a mess... I have often wondered if a problem like that could be solved by putting one of those "keep moisture out packets" often seen in items that can get damaged by moisture.. for example.. the furniture kits you buy at walmart often have a packet or two of this drying agent in it so the wood/particle board does not warp from the moisture..

.. anyway.. I wonder if one of those packets in the canister with the wool would stop any problems with moisture?? just a curious thought.. [Smile]

[green][cool]While I would like to claim the idea as my own, but sorry to say that I borrowed it a while back. I guess very few ideas are newly thought up. BTW I have quite a supply of steel wool since I use it to plug up small holes here & there in my house to keep the roof rats out in the cold. Also read that some where & it works.[/green]

...makes no difference whos idea it was.. I think it is a good one.. I am sure at some point I will use the bodkin with the head cement and this seems a quick easy way to clean it up afterwards..

btw.. I agree that it works to help keep the wee beasties at bay.. have used that in the past myself.. guess its hard for them to chew their way thru that stuff..
