Just looking for some educated opinions.

In the last several years the DWR has treated several lakes on the Boulder Mtn. to remove stunted populations of brook trout. These lakes now have cutthroats and tiger trout in them.

The majority of the Boulder has special regs that close lakes to fishing from November to April 20. I have heard that these lakes are closed to protect brook trout when they are most vulnerable.

Now the question: Would it be detrimental to the lakes that have the newly introduced populations of tiger trout and cutthroats to be open year round? Do you think there would be enough of an impact by ice fisherman on these lakes to warrant a winter closure?

I for one would love to see them open. I love snowshoeing into backcountry lakes where you won't have anybody else around. However, I would hate to harm these fragile lakes.

It would be worth it to me to set the ball in motion to get the regs changed if I don't hear any adverse arguments.

Removing that reg. would be hard. I'd pick several lakes that you'ld like to be open and talk to the Boulder mtn. biologist or present it to the RAC.

So when we going fishing again?

I agree with you as long as the ATVs and snow machines stay off the closed trails. That's the only thing wrong with Boulder Mountain right now is guys taking their ATVs into restricted areas. I hate it when I do the work to hike into a lake and find guys on ATVs already in there fishing. They're usually locals who think they have the right or something. The park service needs to start prosecuting these dirt-bags! I think if guys had to snowshoe or ski into these lakes you're speaking of the impact would be very low. The fishing for the few who did it would be incredible though! (P.S. I like your site-name! Love those jigs!}
