So after a couple of school classes this morning, I found myself with some free time for the rest of the day. I had some things that I could've done, but I've been reading too many bassmaster magazines the last couple of days. As a result, I've been feeling a bit of a void inside of me due to not doing much largemouth fishing in the last couple of months. I've been doing the smallmouth thing plenty enough up at Jordanelle, but drop-shotting in 20ft of water and fishing heavier tackle in shallow water are two different things. I figured I just may be crazy going out onto Utah Lake targeting largemouths when I knew the recent reports from Utah Lake put the water temps in the high forties. But I just couldn't help myself. I made it onto the water in the Provo Boat Harbor at about 1:45 PM. As I launched and looked at the nice shining sun on that calm glassy water, the rocks in the back of the harbor were looking warm and inviting. I saw that and hoped the bass would be back there getting warm...they were. Water was 50 degrees in the very back of the harbor. Started off throwing a chartreuse bomber crankbait...ended up not putting it down for a while. Within the first hour, I boated 5 largemouths on it, and lost two right at the boat due to head shakes. That was in one pass on the back rock wall. I also boated 4 white bass in the same pass. After that first pass, the action slowed after a horrible incident...my wedding ring came off my hand and right into the murkiness of Utah Lake. [crazy] I felt pretty sick after that, and couldn't quite seem to keep my focus. Caught a few more white bass but no more largies. It was a good hour while it lasted anyways...the excitement of getting on such a good bite in 50 degree water died really quick... [unsure]

That sucks losing your ring! Hopefully your wife is the understanding type. The good news is that you were out doing what ya love!

I lost my wedding ring into the big deep blue of Bear Lake this summer, I know how you feel, it just makes you sick. Once you get past the sentimentality of the ring, you will at least be glad that it was your ring and not your wifes. Hers is a little more painful to the wallet to replace.

[cool]Congrats on the largies and whities, but that sucks about your ring. I lost mine in '04 at Rock Cliffs. I felt the same way back then, but my wife was fairly understanding at the time, and I committed that I wouldn't wear one again when fishing. She replaced it with the same one that they had at Zales still, and engraved the same thing inside it, and surprised me with it one day so that made it a lot better.

Anyway, once again, congrats on getting into the largies at U.L. this time of year. Most guys can't do that. It's cool that you found them and caught them too.

Well done on the bass -- too bad on the ring. That is the reason that my wedding ring and my other special ring always stay home on all of my fishing trips.

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Alex, glad you found some largies. Bummer about the ring. Hope you don't lose fishing privileges...if you even tell your wife what REALLY happened.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]By the way, what was the depth back in the harbor?[/#0000ff]

Nice report bro. I watched my wallet sink to the depths of moki canyon down at powell. I was devistated at the loss. I know how it feels to lose your wedding ring as well. Let's hook up when I return from Phoenix!

Well, so far it doesn't look like I'll be losing fishing privileges. After I lost it I said a little prayer hoping that my wife would be understanding of the situation. I got lucky...she was. As far as the depth of the harbor goes, the deepest I can recall seeing it on my finder was maybe 6.5-7ft deep at the very end of the boat ramp that's in the back of the harbor. On that back wall I was fishing though it dropped down to about 4.5-5ft fairly quickly with the rocks before it met the mud. I had a lot of bites back there on my crankbait that felt like White Bass smackin' it around and not getting hooked...probably a bit too small to really eat it. All the White Bass I did catch were good sized (big enough to really eat the crankbait).

[#0000ff]I'm sure you are enjoying being able to fish your favorite spots from a boat, rather than tubing or hiking.[/#0000ff]
