The Conoco on 4700 So. and just East of Bangerter highway is selling diesel fuel for $3.25/gallon. Alot cheaper than $3.59 as is the norm and gas is cheaper also. They have been atleast 25 cents cheaper per gallon for the last two months trying to boost business and it has been working. Just a heads up.

Every time I see the price of diesel fuel go up my blood just boils. I can remember working in a gas station back when regular was 39.9 cents, ethyl was 43.9 cents & diesel was like 24.9 cents a gallon. It still costs the oil companies a heckuva lot less to produce diesel than it does to produce gasoline. Probably 95% of diesel users have to pay the asking price for diesel or go outta business. Gasoline users on the other hand can carpool, take public transportation, cut back or just quit driving if the price gets too high.

I'm willing to bet there isn't anyone today that can find any purchased item in their homes that wasn't at some point handled by a diesel truck on its way to them. When the price of diesel fuel goes up, it's not long until everything else has to follow.

The oil companies know full well that they have the diesel users (and the rest of the nation) right by the short hairs. If Americas trucks all stopped for even a few days, this nation would grind to a stop and all hell would break loose.

You read where inventories of gasoline and diesel fuel are low so the price is raised. Lemme ask you this, does it really cost more to produce either gasoline or diesel when inventories are low than it does when inventories are large? If so, how and why?

I've done griped my fool head off about this and don't really have the slightest idea how to rectify this situation. I'd buy oil company stock if I didn't have to spend so much at the pump that I can't afford to. Anybody have ideas? C'mon, help us all out here!

I understand and have your back 100% on this subject. The only way I can think to rectify the situation is trying to get our state politicians involved somehow. Sad to say but this country is built around GREED now adays instead of PRIDE and HONOR like before. Lets think, they say the price per barrel of oil is rising to $90-$100 a barrel, but why are we paying that? Is it because 96.6% of the oil that is used to produce gasoline/diesel fuel in America is IMPORTED? What happens to all this oil that is pumped from OUR HOMELAND or out in the Gulf of Mexico? Storage? For what? In my oppinion by us storing our own oil that is produced/pumped here in America that is hurting us worse. I just think the value of a barrel of oil is going up because we are getting it outside of the U.S. (imported), so that means we pay more. How much would it be for a barrel of oil if the U.S. used 60% of our (U.S.) oil produced here in the U.S. and the other 40% imported? $55 a barrel? $60? Better than the $100 that we are headed to. In my oppinion, again, dont think for one second that we are not pumping out of Iraq either. Been there, done that, seen that, and why is a barrel of oil still rising? Hmmmmm......Greed maybe? Someone needs to figure something out. Why isnt this brought up anywhere in the news other than "the price of gas is going up" well no sh*! Sherlock, why is it going up and why dont you (the news) do something to figure it out, ask the Mayor, the Governor, the Senator, etc etc etc, maybe they can upchannel the situation to the right person, The President!!!

[#808000]You are exactly right that diesel is cheaper to produce than gasoline because it takes less refining to make the final product. The biggest problem with diesel right now is the oil refineries are producing more gasoline per barrel of oil than they used too which leaves less diesel for sell on the market, hence higher prices that you and I pay at the pump for diesel.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]Diesel users including trucking are the minority in this country, and if less gasoline was refined to make more diesel available there would be an even bigger uproar than what is happening now from diesel users.[/#808000]

[#808000]All in all if you want cheaper oil we need to build more refineries open up drilling on our own land and stop relying on foreign oil so much, at least until other technologies are available. But that will never happen so get used to $3 a gallon being cheap.[/#808000]

Not to fuel the fire (pun intended) but it went from $3.25 to $3.49. I always hear about people complaining and news reports about gas prices. For some reason the cost of diesel fuel is never mentioned. AAARRRGGG!

I drive a diesel too, so I feel your pain. I also work at an oil refinery. Remember when diesel was always cheaper than gas? Diesel used to require much less refining than gasoline. Since the government made us go to low sulfur and high sulfur(red), diesel has gone up. This last year we had to go to ultra-low sulfur for on-highway diesel. This requires much more refining than it used to. Removing sulfur is not an easy process. Sulfur is also a lubricant, which means additives are put in the fuel. I'm not defending the oil companies, they don't give their employees any kind of deal, I just know that there are some real reasons for the increase. I filled up my truck this morning before heading to Piute, $105.00, ouch.

[#808000]I also drive a Diesel and have owned one since Ford put a Turbo on thier diesel in 1994. I filled my Powerstroke up last night from just under half a tank and it came to $84 Dollars[shocked] @$3.49 a gallon in Mtn. View.[/#808000]

[#808000]I work for ExxonMobil and I am not defending the Oil companies either, but contrary to popular beleif they are not the ones to blame for the price of any product made from oil. But wouldn't it be great if they did give some employee discounts at the pump[Wink].[/#808000]
