[cool]Hey folks, got a PM from Honky about the recent float tubin' bass derby on Castaic, which he was good enough to give us the heads up on.

We had Freeway closures at the Castaic off ramp due to the Grapevine being closed due to SNOW!!! We were supposed to be at the Lagoon around5 am to help set up but never got there until after 6 am. Fortunately one of the guys lives out that way so pretty much had things all set up. I helped on the water with my boat. had 4 boaters weighing the fish etc,. It was cold & the wind started up about 10 & by eleven it was really blowing. 3 ft swells & gusts to 25 or so. 34 tubers showed including a father & son. THe little guy was only 10 but really into the fishing. His Dad had him tethered to his tube with a rope, but they could fish independently. THey got off the water once & the kid was begging his dad to get back on the water. After about half an hour the dad relented & they fished till almost the end of the tournament. Unfortunately the little guy didn't get any fish. Water temp had dropped & with the wind was tuff fishing, even keeping a boat in one spot & then trying to maneuver close enough to net the fish. ONly about 25 fish were weighed, big fish was 4.60. He also had total weight 0f 8.60 for 1st place. Made out pretty good, $130 for big fish, $250 gift certificate from Sport Chalet. Sprot chalet brought alot of stuff & enough for all the tubers to get a good bag. Even gave the little guy something extra & he really enjoyed that. Anyway will try & get some pictures on the sight in a few days. That's all for now.. [/size][/black][/font]
