holy crap its been a while since ive been on here...havent been fishing in months, just havent had the drive to do it i guess. been kinda busy with school. but tonight i was watching tv, and saw a show about "noodling", where anglers jump in the water and catch monster cats with their bare hands, or gloved hands, either way. no rods or reels. just their hands. that looks pretty fun. anyone try it or seen it done in person?

also, later in the program, they talked about a fishing tournament in the illinois river i believe called the "redneck tournament" where all the anglers went out on the river to catch as many asian carp as they could, by snaggin the carp when they lept from the water. with nets, hands, or just the fish jumpin into the boat. its funny to watch a carp leap from the water, hit a guy in the head and then him take a swing at the falling fish with a pole afterwards...

anyways, just thought i'd post something since i havent in forever...maybe ill pull the reels out soon and go fishin.

I wont try noodeling even though it's common here in Oklahoma, it's dangerous. Falling rocks and road beds, snakes, beaver that bite and turtles.

Asian carp unfortunatly have taken over the illinois river system and reuind fishing. Try crusing the river at night with a spolight and see what jumps in the boat[shocked]

I saw Mike Rowe do that on dirty jobs a few months ago.. Pretty funny stuff.. Looks like a good way to loose a finger to me.

I'll stick with fishing rods

LOL! I lost 2 fingers in a table saw acccident about 20 years ago, no "NOODLING" for me, I already type slow enough!!

ouch dude. that sucks! if i lost any fingers of my left hand id be lost in life, not being able to play guitar anymore. id wear the kevlar protective gloves if i noodled, which i doubt i ever will.

not me dood, not even with a whole body suit of kavlar, them big kats big turtles and big aligator gars down your way can pull you right down under and hold ya there...

I too caught that episode. I presume it's one of those activities that's more fun to watch other folks do- I don't feel any urges to catch any cats with my hands.

even if i was crazy enough to do it, i'd go out to oklahoma and do it where everyone else does it, and they do it in teams, and they have ropes and stuff in case they get into trouble.

I hear that, I got no enklination of ever sticking my hand down in to the mouth of one of them big cats. not even after I catch one on hook and line...

there's no tellin how many broke off trebble hooks stuck in there....[shocked]

The treble hooks are just the icing on the cake. I wouldn't want to come up missing digits after hitting a snapping turtle![shocked]

no doubt, you get caught by a 300 pound aligator snapper, I dont think there is a rope and ten guides will be able to pull you back in one peice....[shocked]
[signature]
They would be lucky to get the rope back![shocked]

I wouldn't want to accidently noodle a big pike. Or a little one for that matter. Or a turtle, beaver, muskrat, otter....[unsure]
[signature]
I would never try that lol, I see some of the huge cats people do catch and if I knew something that big was swimming right by me I would freak out lol.

[black][size 3]Noodling didn't appeal to me, until I found out that not all noodling is done by ugly guys, grabbing at ugly fish.[/size][/black]
[size 3]See attached photo. lol[/size]

Lol ok if they were with me then I think I would try it. Lol.
