Okeechobee, Fla. - River2Sea Pro Staffer Byron Velvick went to Lake Okeechobee in Florida November 29 through December 1 with the sole purpose of requalifying for the Bassmaster Elite Series at the Elite Series Wildcard Tournament; but he came away with more, his second career BASS victory.

2007 was a down year for Velvick, one that started with injury and got worse from there, but he ended the season with his strongest performance of the season. The Elite Series Wildcard is the final event of the 2007 season, and the last chance for Elite Series and Open pros to qualify for the 2008 Elite Series.

"This feels tremendous," Velvick said. "I came down here to requalify for the Elite Series, and I put a lot of time into preparing for the event. I wasn't ready to see my Elite Series career come to an end on the shores of Okeechobee."

Velvick said he had three areas that he fished, and had only four rods on the deck of his boat each day, and he would choose his lures based on the strength of the wind. "I had two different lipless crankbaits and two different 10-inch worms tied up," he said. "When the wind was light I used a fire tiger colored River2Sea Tungsten Vibe or a watermelon w/ red and purple flake Berkley Power Worm Texas Rigged with an 1/8-ounce River2Sea Tungsten Worm Weight."

With heavier winds or low light, he chose louder setup on his lipless crankbait, and a shaky head with a darker colored worm. "The fish needed quieter presentations when the wind was light and the sun was high," he exclaimed. "These two lures were key, the subtle rattles of the Tungsten Vibe, and the smaller size and muted paintjob on the River2Sea weight gave me an edge in the tougher, high sky conditions."

The win is Velvick's first since 2000 at the Bassmaster Western Invitational at Clear Lake, and this recent victory reminded him of how good performing well can be. "Having things turn out the way they did has reminded me of how things used to be," Velvick reminisced. "This tournament has rekindled the competitive fires, and reminded me of how well I can perform; how well I have preformed in the past."

Velvick will be competing on the 2008 Bassmaster Elite Series, and River2Sea products will be a part of his arsenal. Form more about River2Sea's Tungsten Vibe and Tungsten Worm Weights visit River2Sea on the web at; www.river2seausa.com.
