Captain Dave Hanson of Fishbuster Charters caught lots of variety, including some BIG ones this week, using live shrimp, crabs, and snapper, off Wiggins pass, including the artificial reef there. Our clients caught permit to 38 inches and 24 pounds, goliath grouper to 59 inches and 100 pounds (released), keeper-sized mangrove and lane snapper to 17 inches, keeper triggerfish, keeper gag grouper to 24 inches, barracuda to 35 pounds (released), nurse shark to 6 feet (released), jack cravalle, ladyfish, grunts and porkfish. Clients included the following parties: Dan Weinrich, whose party had to compete with big barracuda, in order to catch the keeper snapper; John Smith, whose party feasted upon 9 keeper mangrove snapper; W. Billings, who saw a 200 + pond goliath grouper compete with a 6-foot nurse shark for the bait (the shark won!); and Kevin Kraft, whose daughter, Brook, reeled in a hogfish head that alone weighed over 2 pounds--Imagine the size of that hogfish if the shark had not gotten there first!
