[#0000ff]Seriously, there will undoubtedly be some good ice fishing in all the usual places...some better than others. We always have to wait for the first pioneers to ballet out onto the half inch thick ice to provide the first reports and then we go from there. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Most of the lakes are quite a bit lower this year than they were at the same time last year. That is undoubtedly going to affect the fishing. In some cases it will concentrate more fish into less of the deeper waters. In other cases it may have no affect at all.[/#0000ff]

Lmao, "take two casts and don't call me in the morning." ahahaha. Yep I'm one of those ballerinas. Went ice fishing for the first time almost a month ago now, so the itch has died down somewhat. Iced three lakes already, havent had the chance or time to do huntington or scofield.....those are my next shot. Too busy with "other" things and places. Why does everything have to bite like crazy simultaneously? Why do I have to work? Why are cute girls such a distraction from fishing? Problem is this cute girl can't stand the cold, looks like i'm getting a tent and heater this year if i want any company. Any heaters that won't emit carbon monoxide? What is the most portable tent to fit two? Any recommendations? p.s. I'm not good at setting things up. LOL.

We ran up to Huntington on Sunday a little after 7am. We tried to get out to some favorite spots but the slush was too bad to get anywhere. Some others near the dam seemed to set up their spot ok.
We left the slush monster and got to Scofield by 9:30. We caught mostly rainbows (one fat 18"er) a few cutts and a tiger. Nearly all of the 24 fish caught were on peppered clear white tubes or pearl tubes. We also had some success on 1" pink/white tail tubes. All tipped with mealies. We were in 15' of water and the fish showed up at any depth if we jigged a bit.
I recently bought an ice tent ('quickfish III' I think it's called) from Sportsman's. The first I've owned in 15 years on the ice and I LOVE it. It didn't break the bank, set's up fast and it got really toasty. Being dark in the tent I was able to do a lot of 'sight' fishing at around 10'... I saw the bites were super light and those are fish I would not have caught otherwise.

Welcome Reagan, glad that you joined and that you are sharing your reports. Interesting that you caught your fish on Scofield with meal worms. I have fished it twice and tried meal worms on both trips. Caught a few on them, but not many. Our hot baits have been crawlers and wax worms.

I've never done well with crawlers. Waxies with a salmon egg on a small glow in the dark jig a foot or two under an attracting spoon has always been the ticket for me at least. I've done well with mealies too. We caught some good ones once with a jigging rapala.

I have never done that well on crawlers through the ice but last Tuesday at Scofield it is the only thing we caught fish on. Tried wax worms, meal worms and chubs and all 15 fish cacught that day came on crawlers. You just never know.

I went again today... I used waxies and mealies interchangeably they both worked pretty well. I still need to try night crawlers. With the mealies I like to cut them in half with my thumb nail and only put half on. The gooey ooze seems to help.
