The west side of Utah Lake had a cap of ice wednesday morning. Still open water in the middle. A few more days of this cold weather should have fishable ice>

Beware of that ice on Utah Lake! Not ready!!!!! I was the first on it as always, but even I didn't go out more than two footsteps before turning back. It cracked crazily and my foot visibly sunk as I inched backwards. I chisled a few micro test holes and it ranged from 1" at the thickest and safest near shore to only 3/4 inch as I took a step out. And trust me, if could of fished it, i would have! And I'm crazy when it comes to hitting thin ice. I doubt it will be ready for a week at least.....these storms coming in keep the night temps in the upper teens and about 20. Good for ice maintenance but not so much for building it quickly. I wish it would dip down to about 12 overnight.
