I just purchased my fishing licenses Online again, and was still frustrated to find that one can not pick the starting date for the license. I find it difficult to understand why the UDWR has not implemented this feature. On the old UDWR fishing forum (may it rest in peace) this topic was debated, so I am sure that they are aware of the concerns expressed with not being able to pick a starting date for a license. It would seem that by now they could have made life easier for their customers.

Kent,
Ok, correct me if I am wrong, I think that whatever day you by it, that is the day that it starts and runs for the next 365 days. If you want it to start on a certain day, I would purchase it that day. Then It will run for the 365 from that day forward. Not trying to stir the pot, That is just the way i understood it to work. Like I said, Correct me if I am wrong somebody.

i think what kent is getting at is he wants to buy it before it expires and then not have the new one go into effect till the old one expires.

Any and all the other states I have fished over the years you can buy a licenses and say when you want it to start but like always utah is about 20 to 50 years behind.....
Its funny they (the DWR) wants to sell more licenses but only makes it harder for any one to get them.....

I wished I could have taped the call I had with the DWR so called help line...
What a joke I was told that the DWR has talked to all sportsman about the way they do the licenses on line and over the counter and no one wants the licenses to be post dated to start when your old one runs out....
They can get more money this way over the long run and cheat all sportsman out of the days our licenses over lap....

Since we are on the subject I must say I am in agreement as well. Talk about overlap, try all those like me that hunt big game, fish and have no real interest in small game. I buy a fishing license in January, only to find out in June that I now have to buy a "hunting license" which is really just the small game I passed on last year. So I have to buy another fishing license, (really the combo), since it makes no sense to not spend the extra 5 or so bucks and get both. I just wish that they would maybe simplify things a little more for those that don't want to double up on licenses. I think they should give those of us that had to double up a double limit as well.... yeah, that was a joke!![

You are exactly correct; however, it just makes sense to me that I should be able to go in a week or two ahead of when my current license expires and purchase a new license that starts on the date (or a few days after if I don't have a fishing trip planned) my current license expires. I also realize that one can immediately print a temporary license that is good for 30 days, allowing the UDWR time to mail a new license. I will give them kudos for sending the new licenses out immediately (at least this has been my experience in the past). After all of the gripes above, I still enjoy the pleasure of being able to quickly renew my license Online instead of having to go to a retailer.

I wish all states were at least 365 from date purchased. I know Wyoming for one expires Dec 31 every year. I have bought annual for the last 4 years and only end up using it for about 6 months in the summer. Most of the time at least. 2006 I got it in February when I made a 10 day icefishing trip to Wyoming

lol your right about the DWR being years behind. but when your fishing them other states your just getting a temp license not a full re
ence license.. most 1 day 3 day or 10 day license's you get any where in any state you get it to start on what ever date you like... even here in Utah..

I'm like you, but why this state will not do it that way is this...
Lets say you buy your licenses on Jan 1 the next year you buy it on Dec 26 thats five day if 365 people do the same then that give the state five more licenses money that they have times that by the number of people who get theirs a head of time and thats a lot of money.....

I have fished in other states and have been ask when I want it to start for my years licenses....
