Fished in the canyon at Big Elk last Sunday. Ice is great. At least six or seven inches of solid clear stuff with a good solid bank. Fishing was pretty slow until the Kokanee swarm came in about 1:30 in the afternoon, about the time I had to leave. Hooked a couple in the 12 inch range, but I could see bigger fish through the holes in the ice. They were just below the ice, maybe three to five feet down. Wish I could have stayed to catch a few more. I hope to make it back up this Saturday. The main lake has yet to freeze, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

I was fishing twenty or so feet off the rip rap just down from the road. I didn't catch any trout but I think I got there a little late in the morning for them. If you can stand the cold, first light is when I have done the best for trout at Pali
es. I like fishing at Big Elk because you always have a chance for a stray Mack to swim by too. Been a while since I caught one of those. Any, like I said the Kokanee were shallow and I caught them on a white sixteenth ounce tube jig tipped with a mealie. Good luck if you go up.
