Hit the nw corner again today but this time went out a lot further than last time. Bad move, only caught 2 fish.
We packed up and headed back over to our holes from wednesday and immediately began catching perch. Smokepoles identified himself(good to meet you) and we bs'd for a minute. After i had 1 gill about 7", 1 bass about 10" and a few 9" perch, i filleted them out and proceeded to have an on-ice fish fry! YUM![Smile]

We ended up catching 19 perch, 6 trout to 13", 1 LMB, and 1 gill. All fish were caught on very small jigs in various makes and colors tipped with waxies, mealies, or salmon eggs. They are not too picky. At one point we had a school below us that had atleast 50 perch in it! All smallish fish though. Ice was around 3" to 4" depending on where you were. I would still advise not venturing across the lake as there is still iffy ice all over. The ice grew about 1' since wednesday. Hopefully it will get a solid 8 or 10" so i can get my sled out on it.

Brody, I have got to get me a fillet knife and learn how to cook up them perch! I know Tubedude has a recipe around here somewhere- I've always wanted to eat perchies but never have tried one.

Looks like the schools are closer to the shore...that's where I'll be targeting manana. [Smile]

On the ice i keep it as simple as possible.
1 sandwich bag of flower, a seasoning bottle with 50% lemon pepper and 50% seasoned salt. Fillet the fish, rinse with clean water, roll in flower and drop in hot oil till done. Just like Campbels, MMGOOD![cool]

Thanks Brody.
We will stay close to shore tomorrow.
Did you walk up and over the dike or enter the ice from the ramp?
About how far from shore was best?
Thanks, DKS.

Thanks for the recipe info, Brody. Generally, how long does it take to cook them up right?

Dale loves the perchies too, so I'm sure he'll be cooking a few as well.

Was there anyone over on the east side or by the ramp? Or is our best bet to try to hit that NW corner?

Yes, I do love them perchies!
I need to take some home for some World Famous Pig Out Perch Chowder. Wish I had some for tomorrow on the ice.
Thanks again for the great recipe TubeDude!
Derek, see you in the morning.
