Hey everyone I've been silently stalking the site here for a while but havent been a member till today! I really want to get into some brookies through the ice but only have a fourwheeler for access any suggestions on where and what to use? ANY help would be much appreciated. Also I would be willing to hike into silver lake near tible but dont know if it would be worth hauling an auger to. Like I say any help would be great!!!!

Welcome to the site Kyle. As far as catching brookies through the ice goes, you might be in for a lot of work to get to a lake that has them this time of the year. Your profile says you live in central utah but I don't know what area, so it is hard to tell you about a lake near you that might have brookies. If you can get to a lake that has them, I'm sure you can catch them with normal ice fishing jigs. I would use small jigs like rat finkies and wax worm or mill worms. If you have a second poles permit, it might be worth while to try some slightly larger jigs and tip it with a worm. Good luck and let us know if you make it out there.

Thanks man that will help. I live in Orem but would travel anywhere in the northern half of the state to get into them. I am going to try Pittsburg lake and silver lake in the spring/summer but would love to get into them sooner. Ill let you know if I brave it. [

Welcome to the site.
Sure you can catch Brookies through the ice. You would probably have to snowshoe in to the ponds, but you certinly can catch them.
Why do you want to go through so much bother? Tigers from Huntington are a close second, and they are easy to get to.Bows are easy through the ice and perch limits are liberal most everywhere.
My advice is to hit the closest lakes the most. You have Deer Creek, and Yuba close by. Jordenelle, Strawberry, Rockport, and Pineview are all in easy driving distance.
I would stay out of remote mountain areas without a proper snowmobile and survival gear in the winter.

What about Payson Lakes? They have brookies and shouldn't be too hard to get to.

I love those brookies too but without a snowmobile, you will need snowshoes or x-country skis and be willing to walk quite a ways. There are good places on the Boulders you can get nice brooks through the ice and if you P.M. me I'll tell you about them. Also Brownie lake in the Uintas up by Flaming Gorge has brooks, cutts and bows but it's about 3 miles off the highway. You really need a snowmobile to reasonably chase them. Plus you need to make sure the trails are legal for motor vehicles and also that the lakes are open for fishing, particularly on the Boulders.

After it snows, Payson Reservoirs are only accessible if you have a snowmobile.

I'm not sure how hard Tibble Fork Res would be to fish this time of the year but that would be another idea. Good luck and be careful where ever you go. WH2
