With the cold winter and water levels of the Jordan River, would it be a good time to get minnows from the Jordan River in Salt Lake? I have a 5' diameter throw-net. And I'm bored.

I assume you want to catch minnows to use as bait elsewhere, correct? Is that legal?

Well I want to use dead minnows, I never use live bait except for flathead catfish in Arizona.
but I know the Jordan River has suckers and carp and I wanted to use my new throw-net.
I figure the river is low right now and was wondering about the Jordan at this timer of year for catching minnows

[cool][#0000ff]I would recommend using wire minnow traps rather than the throw net. There is a lot of garbage and snags on the bottom, in most spots, and you are liable to lose your net or at least damage it by trying to get it free from the junk. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Best places for throw nets are along the cleaner shorelines of several lakes...Strawberry, Scofield and Electric Lakes to name a few. And, it is not likely there will be many minnows available until the spring spawning periods when they swarm the shallows.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]However, there are some deep holes along the Jordan that should hold a few minnows if you wanna soak some minnow traps. And, while they are soaking, try throwing some spinners or jigs for trout, walleye and white bass. [/#0000ff]
