Headed up to scofield this morning with a buddy from work, got on the lake around 7:20 and headed to the east side of the island. The water was 9.8' deep and I started the day with the usual arsenal of ice flies tipped with a wax worm. Several holes later I managed to locate one hungry 22" tiger, he took a 2" Berkely gulp minnow grub in Chartruese on a drop shot rig. My buddy missed 3 on a Pink minnow grub. Packed up and headed to the dam area around noon. Fished 75 yards due east of the three bouys in 18.7' of water, marked fish from 12' to the bottom. My buddy landed a 16" rainbow deadsticking two wax worms on a drop shot rig at 13'.
I switched tactics and grabbed my Buzz stick fishing rod and put on a gizzy bug (special blend) and it was all over but the crying. Landed the following fish from 1:15 -2:30pm when we headed home:
1 Fat 17" Rainbow
1 15" Rainbow
1 13" Rainbow
1 10" Rainbow
1 20" Tiger
and 1 very, very hungry 7" Rainbow.
I would watch the finder and when it would erupt with fish I simply hit the buzz button for one second then off for one and so on. They loved em.
