Has anyone any info on a place called little dell res. I just found it on the map, looks like it might be hard to get to if they close the road? I love going to new places to fish, so much varity in utah. Birch Creek was a first for me this year, never even knew it was there all these years, same with cutler res, love that place too. Late....

There are a few guys on the site that fish it every year. I'm sure you can do a search on it and find out some info. Good luck if you make it there and let us know how you did. WH2

I think they close the Dell the 31 of October.

The fishing guide says it is artificial flies and lures only and it is closed to the possession of cutthroat trout. Nothing about the lake being closed. WH2

thanks wiperhunter2 sounds like you saw the same webpage i did, I have heard they close that road that goes from the golf course to east canyon, just like the close the monti cristo road when it snows or by a certan date, (i have no idea what or who makes these decisions). Sure would hate to drive up there just to find the road closed, on the bright side I could end up at Stawberry?

[#484848]I was up there last year on the extended archery hunt and it was plowed. It's only 2 minutes or so from the I-80 exit. There pretty strict on the regs up there. My bro-in-law got a ticket for salmon eggs in his tackle box a couple of years ago. My other bro-in-law goes up there alot in the summer kyaking and has said he's seen some decent fish caught?[/#484848]

I've fished Little Dell before. As you've hear, be sure to check the regs, it's got some special rules. Also, it's a SLC watershed area, so you'd probably want to check their website and be familiar with the rules.

Specific Little Dell information found here.

There are big cutts and brookies there, but they're not stupid.

Here's a photo from June of 05. Dunno how access is in the winter, but you could probably get a number to call from the website.

Hope this helps.

The road is usually plowed up to the reservoir. I usually fish their once or twice a year. I've seen some pictures and heard stories about big fish coming out of there. They are difficult to catch though. It's a blue ribbon fishery, and all cutts must be immediately released. The shoreline sucks - it's always eroding under your feet. Best bet is to take a tube or pontoon. Because it's a watershed, you can't touch the water - you must wear waders if you get in the water (Although I've seen moose standing in the water and they don't have to wear waders.) I've pulled some decent rainbows out of there before, but the fishing has usually sucked. But, spending a day on the lake, 20 minutes from home, is relaxing even if you don't catch anything. Make sure you pay the $5 parking fee - I swear there is a cop that circles around up there every hour. I ventured out onto the ice last year to take some pictures and I saw one guy fishing through the ice, but I don't know if he caught anything.

If you're lookin' for a relaxing time, this reservoir is great, but as far as fast action goes, I'd go somewhere else.

No I think the lake itself is open, but you have to park up top and walk all the way down the steep mountain to the lake. I was told two years ago that you couldn't ice fish on this water. (Water shed regulations)
