[font "Arial"][size 3][black]Getting up early friday and heading to Pellican to give it a try. I've never been there and wanted to know if the lake was pretty easy to find? Is anyone willing to tell me where on the lake is a good place to start? What kind of lures are they using on the gills? Probably have some room if somebody wantsto go with----Let me know.

The lake is easy to find if you have a Utah map. It is always a long trip and may be a long nasty trip Friday morning. The best place to ice fish is often on the east side. The river flows into Pelican on the West Side and can make the water more cloudy. There is a substantial amount of weeds growing up from the bottom of the lake and you want to find places where there are opennings in the weeds. I have heard that the water is down this winter, which means that the deepest water may only be 5 to 7 feet deep or so. Small jigs in white, black, chartreuse and contrasting colors of these three (a red head on the jig will often work). You want something that is easily seen by the fish. Tip with meal worms, wax worms or a small piece of crawlers. I have caught them dead sticking, but I usually catch more by actively jigging. I fish with two jigs on each rod. Don't catch them all because I will be fishing it early Saturday morning.

Head toward Vernal, 10 miles before you get there theres a sign for the turn off to ourray take that turn and the road will take you straight to the lake, Can't miss it. There is also a lake called brough lake a couple miles before you hit pelican (can't be seen from the road) a small dirt road goes over to it (short distance) It's managed as a trophy trout water for some larger browns. Check the proclimation on the DWR site. They also give a dicription on dirrections, Good luck

I almost forgot. If your not familiar with the uinta basin area at htis time of year, It can be bitter cold (well below zero in the morning ) so go prepared for extreme cold. Pelican looks like a very large farm pond surrounded by cat tails . So if you see that your at the right place. If I end up not working (small chance ) I'll PM you. I would love to go and thanks for the invite. Unfortunitly I think I will be working.

Is it quicker to go interstate or thru duschane?

If you mean I80 when you refer to interstate, that would definitely be the long way to get there. You would want to go by way of Highway 40. Also, be sure to read the PM that I sent to you.
