Drove up to see if i could fish deer creek and it was all ice! At 8am there was a little open water at the state boat ramp and by noon it extended out quite a ways. I'm sure its super thin but it won't be long. Ended up hitting the river and catching 6.

I drove by tonight on my way to strawberry and I didn't see much open water. It was so cold up at the berry tonight - deer creek will be ce fishable this staurday I would bet, if you feel comfortable walking on 3 inches.

i live right next to deer creek. ill have to try it out in a week or so, and see if it is thick enough. hopefully by next week it will be 3" or more. it sure has been cold. all day has been 15-20*F so it must by near zero at night. But ill send you a report[Smile]

I drove by on my way to work tonight at about 4:30 and someone had a shelter on the ice by the Island marina but it was only about 20' out from shore ( if that far). I would wait a week or so. Maybe next weekend.

that would be nice. hope to hit it soon. [cool]

Yeah I saw the same ice shack out there. Can't imagine it being very deep water there. Wonder how they did.[unimpressed]

I saw two more shelters out tonight. They were out by the buoy by the Island ramp. It must be getting thicker fast.

we saw 2 groups out there yesterday at about 5 pm 2 guys were straight west of the island (or what used to be an island) about 50 feet out on the ice and some more over in rainbow bay about 100 feet out. Dont know how thick it was, but i know i'll wait a little longer.

Has anyone had any success for Walleyes through the ice @ Deer creek?

I was wondering the same thing! I have never gone after walleyes before but this coming year I would love to catch one. I have heard that they are hard to locate while ice fishing since they tend to be on the move a lot. I don't even know how to fish for walleye...yet! I hope the ice gets thick quick!

very few do catch eyes hard decking dc. fluke luck for the most part. think ill hit it this yr looking for some. buddy shared some info about where they been moving in the late fall with me so i have a good idea about where i get to start looking. i have fished dc eyes for 18 plus yrs now. caught moore from there than i can count but none threw the ice. yet.[Wink]

I have fished for them on ice in MN but thats like the state fish and they are plentiful. They also use live minnows for them which I think helps a lot. We targeted fish over structures and reefs. Trouble with these man made lakes its hard to find structure!
Another question while we are on the topic of iceing walleyes, has anyone fished Starvation Res through the ice for Walleyes?

live bait o your ruined for life. [shocked] here its all about differnt immitation pressintation. the only thing live is a crawler. and starvation is the only place i do crawlers. twister tail jigs bottom bouncers rapalas are main ammo in my toy box. starvation is tuff in winter. i know a spot its a 20 yrd cicle table top in 50 ft that drops on all sides to 80 plus. the eyes come in 1 hr before dark and leave 1 hr after. then poof dissapeir.

Hahahah, yeah ruined for ice fishing anyway. My wife is from there so when we go see her dad in international falls its like ice fishing at the Hilton. 200 square feet of warm comfort, recliners and a fridge full of beer (yes a fridge) but I guess when you get over two feet of ice you can drag those big old ice houses out on the water.
Do you fish Starvation much during the winter? Its certainly interesting that the fish arrive then disappear like that as the structure sounds perfect for them
