Went to Newton about noon and fished till five, There is lots of small perch, but I had a hard time hooking them. Caught five or six and threw em all back because their all about 6-7 inches, then decided to keep a few, so keep six to bring home, they would bite on about any small jig I put down in the 8 to 14 foot depth, out deeper I couldnt get any bites. I have a question? About whats the smallest size perch do you guys keep, these seem really small.

With perch 7-9" is fairly good size. 5-6" you can keep depends on how good you are with knife to get those pieces of meat. Heard of any muskies been caught at newton?

I too went to Newton on Monday afternoon. You can catch all the little perch in the world there. I have every once in a while caught a jumbo. No bass hook up yet this year. I was searching for crappie. I finally found some about an hour and a half before dark. I caught 9 with little size. I moved around a lot. I so badly need a fish finder because this guessing game sucks and my arm is getting sore. If anyone wants a guided service to newton, I am more than willing to put in the time. I fish it a lot in the spring and summer. I have caught some slabs in there. The crappie spawn was fantastic last year. You could easily catch 100 crappie a day out there but mostly all small. I did however find a spot that produced some slabs. The lake level has risen about 6 feet from the low point during the summer. It is probably about 10 feet lower this same time last year. If anyone needs info on Newton, give me a pm. The ice is safe. The safest of Mantua, Hyrum, and Pineview.
